Alien Reboot or Origin Story Being Considered.

Alright, I suppose it’s time for me to accept the fact that like it or not, Hollywood considers nothing sacred when it comes to “reboots, remakes, etc”, so instead of being instantly pessimistic whenever I see one of my most beloved movies/franchises being considered for the Joan Rivers treatment, I’ll hope they actually make her look human… Er, hope they actually do the original some justice.

That said, I can’t help but be a little skittish in regards to the Alien franchise, as it’s one that has not had the most luck when it comes to the decisions of studio execs (probably the fact that Fox owns it really doesn’t help).

Here’s the article by which I discovered this news, Latinoreview is an excellent site that tends to get the most reliable information about the goings on in Hollywood in the movies department, in fact most of the bigger i-mags tend to cite this site.

My personal casting choice for Ellen Ripley would really have to go to Torri Higginson, best known as Dr. Elizabeth Weir on Stargate Atlantis. She’s always reminded me of Sigourney and think she would do the role justice.

Expect much of this

Hmm, perhaps not, apparently Ridley Scott is all over this, and I know he’s not one to compromise on such things, not to mention there was a definite move away from making a movie kiddie friendly when they did AvP2.

Slight update, as IO9.com reports, apparently the next Alien movie will indeed be a prequel. I really really hope more is revealed about the mysterious Space Jockeys.

Very loose amount of info for this in the article, but the links contained therein have some interesting words from Scott and Rinsch.

Well, I have only seen the first two.

They only appeared in the first. A petrified one was in a (pilots?) seat in the mysterious ship that was on LV-426

Giger’s art:

Movie set:

Sounds pretty interesting, judging from those Ad’s the director has produced.

It’s clear they’re movie with be visually stunning.

I figured thats who you meant. I referred to them as “The Big Guys”

No, it will be more likely how the crew met up in the first place. Something lame like that.

Doubtful. Scott and Co. have for a long time entertained the idea of going back and shedding more light on the Space Jockey’s. To the extent where it’s likely they were the engineers who designed the Xenomorph’s.

It would be interesting to see the story of how they were the architects of their own destruction. However, that does leave the human component of the movie completely in question.

I trust Scott though, he’s been involved in some of my favourite movies in one way or another, the only movie of his I would say that sucked (off the top of my head) was Gladiator.

Sounds like the Forerunners from Halo.

Right except they would be the Forerunners of the Forerunners.

Ever since Giger created the Space Jockey and most especially when they finally did the onset filming, Scott was enamored with the idea of creating an entire backstory for the creatures. This idea has been suggested by Scott many times since '79 when Aliens was released. Of course, it’s pretty clear that the technology to produce such a backstory in movie form was a little out of reach.

Btw, you could just use the ^ instead of quoting an entire post that is directly above yours.

But that opens up the possibility to being ninja’d

In which case, editing it to have the quote in isn’t terribly difficult.

It just helps to not have chunks of pages taken up by quoting that isn’t really necessary.

But It makes the thread look more popular

EDIT: I’ll stop doing that from here on out

That has to be one of the most epic movie sets ever created. I would loooooooove it if they made a new Alien movie about the space jockey race and how that ship got infected and crashed on the planet.

Hmmmm, my first reaction to this was horror, hadn’t the Alien franchise been tarnished enough? But with Ridley Scott involved and keen to delve into some back-story for the original film and a visually confidant young director trying to break out into movies from commercials just like Scott was back in the seventies, I’m going to settle for catiously optimistic here.

The best thing they could do right now is get Giger on board again. If they did that I’d be immediately sold.

Bill Paxton should play Ripley.

Ah, so you’re looking forward to her on Dollhouse. I bet Whedon is too. hehe

this.

Well, it’s in stone, Rinsch and Scott are going ahead with it, filming starts by the end of the year.

There are also some cool shorts that showcase Rinsch’s directorial abilities that actually encourage me to have faith in this origin story (which are also getting too heavily done these days).

I’d rather have a prequel than a remake. It would be interesting and maybe they could base it off of the comic books that were actually very good.

The original is just…you can’t redo what that one did. People were puking and fainting in the theater during the original chestburster scene. It’s just such a damn good movie.

Halo wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for alien(s). Seriously, half of the shit i that game is based off of the Colonial Marines.
