A particle beating a speed of "299792458M/S"

inb4 equal to light

Einstein was wrong…

They release a particle and detect when it arrives at its destination. This particle arrives at its destination faster than should be possible.

That’s what has to be determined now. If it does travel through wormholes or something similar, then it would be unusual but not would not be particularly groundbreaking. Wormholes are well allowed for in physics. But, if the neutrino does in fact travel faster than light locally, that is, it actually does achieve a speed faster than light, then that would be revolutionary. Well, revolutionary to the world of science. It would probably not affect most people’s lives for a long time, if ever. After all, it’s one thing for a particular particle to go faster than the speed of light - it’s quite another for anything else to do that.

Are you referring to relativity? Because he is still quite right. If relativity was incorrect, much of the technology the world relies upon today would not possible. However, it’s possible for another theory to be “more correct” than his - one that states what his states, but allows for this as well.

nerds

I have a theory, the universe got a CPU upgrade now the speed of light is +60 nanoseconds

I like this theory.

+1 for a theory

Write your paper, send it to physics society, and get your Nobel prize

Oshi–!

“It looks like the neutrinos coming from the sun have mutated into a new kind of nuclear particle. They’re heating up the earth’s core and suddenly act like microwaves.” --Dr Satnam Tsurutani

We’re fucked.

Mayan mass-suicide ensues.

we now have hope for the prospect of a Warp drive

Teleportation ----> Apature Science.

I knew CERN would kill us all.

So you’re saying they took a sleek looking case, and jammed it full of neutrinos? :expressionless:

I like the way you think!

This neutrino casserole is delicious! My compliments to the chef. Now my reality is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked.

XKCD knows the solution. So, anybody have some money you guys can lend me?

So, how long till it gets peer reviewed.

Three to five months later.
They wait for Fermilab and the others in Japan to confirm the experiment, with another isolate experiments.

Resonance Cascade?

Renaissance cascade*

Let’s see if CERN could detect some extra terrestrial signal from another galaxy.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
