A growing concern, and how we can help

Okay, am I the only one enjoying these exchanges? Clearly, it’s some form of fun, or something like it…I misunderstood bur’s fragment, and did apologize for that. I also realize that you were likely composing your response and might have missed that humbling experience, and wouldn’t miss a chance to insult my intelligence. Although what you’re after now is based on my misunderstanding of Bur’s fragment, and I already apologized for going off half-cocked. So tuck into some schadenfreude. I will get back to you Karamazov, pravilnaya patamoshta mne jena eta Russkaya e ya gavaril milinkaya Russkiy. Ooshis Russkiy.

and the physics.

Yes, that’s what happened.

I sense a hint of sarcasm, or at least exaggeration, but I’ll take it
Not that there was any need.

No sarcasm, just an apology for being a short-fused douche and a method of mischief that I know works like a dream. Somebody at work might piss you off more than I did, so now you’ve got one more leaf in your black book. Plus you said your French was rusty, so I figured I should translate my shit-talking for the sake of honesty. And anytime you can work a badger into something it usually comes off more funny than malicious.

I suppose my view on the whole Russian x-mas thing may be a little skewed because mne jena makes a huge deal of both stateside gentile “plain-flavored Christian x-mas” and typically celebrates Russian Orthodox (whatever you do, don’t call it Greek Orthodoxy or it’s ramen noodles for dinner, regardless of the similarities of the Alfavit or religious strictures and iconography) Christmas with her family near Belgorod which is a major production, at least for us. Personally, I think she jocks the system to make sure somebody bought her a Kindle Fire. My Orthodox x-mas consists of 8-10 packages of Kirieshki suhariki, and that’s awesome. It seems that Eastern European countries place a real premium on the new year’s celebration as well, I believe due to their proximity to China…and that it’s a good idea to ingratiate yourself to your powerful, wealthy neighbors. especially when you sell light sweet petroleum and they’re sitting on billions of dollars of plastics-based production lines ready to run 29 hours a day.

As for DNF running parallel to BMS…dude, that’s like the death of hope right there. HOPEFULLY, your exposure to all that Rus culture hasn’t transferred the slavic fatalist identity and innate melancholia onto you irreversibly.

DNF was a slap-dash cash grab that looked like dry chili-vomit and played like it’d been geocached back in 2003, 'cause everyone was busy ‘running with scissors’. I’m glad that it was finally released, but the awkward controls, same-lame weapons, and repetitive gameplay mechanic left the fans solemnly munching on what is, essentially, a shitburger. BMS can’t be that. It won’t be that. It’s like the UBS of mods, except with passion, integrity, and dedication instead of trillions of dollars in Nazi gold and all those incomprehensible financial algorithms. Tak, harasho?

What the fuck happened to this thread?

When did it become the pretentious intellectualoid discussion room it has become now?

Lay off your pseudo-knowledge, you deadbeats.

Ramen noodles aren’t pretentious - unless you infuse them with saffron and serve them with the braised pituitary of some endangered bird.

A deadbeat is someone who doesn’t pay their bills or debts. Maybe you mean ‘dilettante’.

Uh, that’s mostly my fault. See I was mowing down the naysayers that were bitching about the source engine being too old, and I clipped a couple of non-combatants with friendly fire. Turns out that after I made amends, that there are a few (probably more than a few) cultivated intellectuals that were cool enough to call me on my BS without resorting to the almighty BanHammer. And there’s some common ground worth discussing, because where I live most people only care about the local pub, “their” football team, and making sure there’s fresh ice in their Roor limited edition cocktail shaker/water bong. That’s a bit dull…so, I kept the eclectic choo-choo going. The OP was rehashing ‘what can we do to move the mod along’ thread, so I treated it like the throwaway page it is.
I see how it seems pretentious, but from an experiential standpoint you can enjoy a type of shorthand with someone else orienting themselves to a totally outside culture. And if I had some cheap Spanish saffron, I would dose the hell out of a pack of ramen with it and garnish with powdered rhino horn. And fricasseed unicorn balls. Supper’s at six, and I set you a place.

You do realize your typing gives off the tone of a pretentious, bombastic prick, right?

Anything more than a pinch will ruin your dish - it’ll taste like bath soap or shampoo. Even Spanish saffron is way too much money. I only know that because my GF made a dish for a dinner that called for saffron - it was $40 for 8g, which many of us already know is slightly more than 1/4 oz.

She used a pinch that one time, and we didn’t use it again . . . until I put it in some pasta I made, which is how I learned that too much will taste like soap.

May I add that Spanish saffron (or “azafran” as we spanish speakers call it) goes great with rice, specially if you are doing something with chicken. My favourite recipe is one that includes chicken, rice with Spanish saffron (just enough so as to give flavour but not too much), sweet red pepper and onions (both of this cooked slowly thus getting an almost sweet flavour), sault and Herbes de Provence.

[/EPIC OFF TOPIC]
[CRAVINGS]

That sounds amazing.

That’s sounds great! It also sounds like something that I could do. Let me ask you this: when you say, " (both of this cooked slowly thus getting an almost sweet flavour)", do you mean saute the onions and peppers together until they slightly carmelize (a little brown at the edges)?

Regarding ‘[/EPIC OFF TOPIC]’ - well, it’s a thread about ‘how we can help’ the devs, and such a nice chicken and rice recipe seems more helpful than anything else offered.

To be honest, I fail to see the root of the original discussion. Are we waiting for this mod because it’s an improvement from Half-Life 1 and Gldsrc? Yes we are. Are we going to enjoy the better graphics? Yes we are. Is the whole point of this mod to up the graphics of something that already exists and is brilliant? Yes it is. Is Black Mesa a modern interpretation of something that really doesn’t need to be remade? Yes it is. So what exactly are you guys arguing about?

All I’m seeing is a bunch of pretentious pricks going on and on about how unimportant graphics are, and yes… The majority of all gamers couldn’t care less about the graphics. But since we, aswell as the gaming platform is evolving, we are forcibly sent into an inevietable vortex of improved graphics.

To put it simply… Gaming has not revolutionized story-telling one bit, but graphics and gameplay do evolve and become better, and the standard is always raised.

So the original poster has a valid point, but it’s irrelevant since this is in essence a graphical improvement upon the original game, with a few hints of originality from the perspective of new developers.

We’re seeing new graphics and improved gameplay.

Are the graphics outdated? Somewhat. I love new graphics, but I’ll never stop playing Super Mario Bros. or Lost Vikings because another game has better graphics. But if a game was released today that looked like Super mario 64, I probably wouldn’t bother to play it because my standards have evolved.

Aspergers spotted

Nah - he probably had too much coffee or something.

The onions and peppers should be well cut into small pieces and cooked together with some oil (so it doesn’t get burnt) inside a cooking pot (I use one similar to these one https://repositorio2.masoportunidades.com.ar/ARG01/96/109/10593010/fotos//10593010_3_2011321_20_54_40.jpg). I recommend to cook it as slowly as possible (the first couple times my mom asked me to do this I kind of burnt everything) because believe me, you are looking for the onions to be soft and release lots of water, with no sides “carmelized” or burnt.
It takes some time to be ready mostly cuz of the onions but it’s a great recipe. Once you get the hang of it you will end up cooking onions all the time like this (I do so very often specially for making tomato sauce for pizzas or pasta).

OH! I almost forgot, you better use gloves and maybe glasses when cutting those onions. Taking your shirt off would be a good idea too (if you want to be sure to not get impregnated by that smell). Letting the water run through a faucet close to were you are cutting the onions is a good idea as it reduces the spread of the onion juice in the air (I don’t know why but it works for me).

OK - so basically saute the onions and peppers together, but on low heat.

I’ve cut a LOT of onions, but always fully clothed. If we’re going to exchange onion-cutting tips, here’s mine: if you don’t talk and keep your mouth closed, the fumes won’t irritate your eyes as much.

Also, it seems OK to cut onions with your shirt off, but - and this is very important - never fry bacon naked.

lol
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
