32-bit vs 64-bit

I didn’t read about migrating your stuff, but IIRC the standard windows backup disk only saves your documents, music, movies, maybe saved games, that kind of thing and not programs.

Programs you won’t be able to directly transfer over, you’ll have to reinstall those, which is really the biggest hassle.

Ah, dang. Ya, that is the biggest hassle. At least “saved games” might be on that list, that’s something I don’t enjoy losing.

Saved games only if they developers put them in the folder that microsoft set up. I know in W7 they have a folder called ‘saved games’, but none of my games have taken advantage of it, so I’ll have to go into the game directory and pick them out instead.

You could just put your saved games on a memory stick and put them back in the correct folder after you’ve installed Windows.

Most saved games go in My Documents, My Saved Games or Program Data.

GTA 4 has 2 separate folders in appdata that you have to copy or else your save games don’t work. It’s incredibly stupid and is the reason why I hate moving saved games.

I never said it wasn’t possible, and I know that most 32 bit software runs fine. But if we’re talking about outdated and near-obsolete software there can be quite a few issues that arise trying to run them on 64bit.

Comparatively it would be like how XP has features to emulate the behaviour of Windows 95, 2000 and NT when running applications.

The main issue for me is driver support and backwards compatability with both older hardwear and software.

Except my copy of GTA4 is completely standalone, I can run it on any PC as long as it has visual C++ SP1 and direct X installed. It doesn’t require rockstar social club and the save game folder is in the game directory.

When I buy a new computer (which will have brand-new parts) shall I take 32-bit windows 7 or 64-bit?

64 bit

link?

Start with your pirated version, install official patch 1.0.3.0 and then download the razor 1911 crack for 1.0.3.0

that’s all I remember doing, also I just checked, the only save games in the game dir are the autosaves, the other savegames are in “C:\Users\Sersoft\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames”…

awesome. that damn social club is annoying, especially when the game uses every resource on my computer to pull 40fps.

Last I checked, win7 “32 bit mode” is a form of XP running in a virtual machine… Hence 32bit stuff should work fine. 16bit on the other hand…

Some 16bit apps work fine.
