Mediocre Camera + mediocre event + horrible camera skills= this video.
Yeah, Enjoy if you can… I don’t blame you if you can’t…
If it’s so shit, why post it? I do tonnes of video, image, and audio stuff, and if I make something I’m not happy with, I delete it. I don’t post it all over the net. Just because it took a while to make doesn’t mean you have to try and get people to see it. Cut your losses, learn from your mistakes, and for gods sake don’t feel that you have to show people every half-assed piece of crap you make, just because you made it. Only show people the finished product that you’re happy with, not the 50,000 shit versions you made first.
It’s not that bad, a little shaky maybe. Not a bad choice of music and the transitions are solid. Perhaps a lack of consistency/coherency between the images being shown. Its all experience. Shasta, maybe the guy’s just lookin for constructive criticism? Plus when’s the next time he’s likely to see a winter olympic relay?
If he’s looking for constructive criticism, he should just ask for it. If he’s posting it so other people can see the winter Olympics, the sports channels are doing a better job. If he was posting it as a “special spectator view”, then he wouldn’t have made such a big deal about all the editing side of it, and would have just posted it pretty much raw with the boring bits cut out.
Anyway, I gave him some constructive criticism: don’t post shit that you know is shit. There will be thousands of people at the Olympics with cameras and cellphones, and thankfully not every single one of them will feel the urge to upload their shots and basically inflict their home/holiday videos upon the world. No-one like to see their uncles holiday videos, posting it on a forum of strangers is even worse tbh. Especially when he seemed focussed on the editing side too.
Meh, he told you what you were getting before you you clicked the link, probably undersold it. You didnt have to watch it, and you didn’t get anything you weren’t expecting. Pretty much the same as anyone else who watched it. Only person wasting your time is you. Stop whinging.
Lol - I haven’t watched it and have no intention of watching it. If the person that videoed, edited and uploaded it thinks it’s crap, why on earth would I waste my time and bandwidth on it? My point has nothing to do with this particular clip either - my point (as you seem to have missed it) is: if you make something you KNOW is shit, keep it to your fucking self. If you KNOW it’s utter crap, don’t feel the need to share it with the rest of the world. If it’s a big, televised event from around the globe, and just like the thousands of other people there with a camera you have nothing to add that the major networks haven’t already covered - then that’s extra reason to keep it to yourself.
OP - if you want some positive advice on where to go from here: From the sounds of it you need some practice using a camera, and editing. So go get that practice. When you feel ready to share something with total strangers, STOP. THINK about the subject - is it interesting to others, have you recorded it well, edited it well, and is it something that people HAVEN’T ALREADY SEEN AND IN BETTER QUALITY? And if it’s just a “home movie”, it’s NEVER ok to feel the need to share with strangers, UNLESS it has something interesting (car crash etc).
Maybe he was underselling it so he wasn’t flamed by the first person who watched it? It’s not as atrocious as he makes out.
Again, that’s not the point. IF HE THINKS IT’S SHIT, WHY POST IT AT ALL? If he doesn’t think it’s shit, then why insult his own work that he actually thinks is good? Is that some sort of technique to avoid people insulting your work - insult it yourself first? Does that somehow ease the pain when others come and mock it?
Why does it bother you so much?
I just like how you wrote over 500 words in response to my pieceocrap video
words words words
If it makes you think before uploading next time, it was worth it. Before you try to flatter yourself too much however, try to realise that only some of it was directed at you, most of it was repeating myself in a conversation with that other idiot help him see my point. Besides, you say it like writing is some sort of chore or something. I find it relatively enjoyable tbh. If I were you I’d focus more on quietly hoping no-one else sees your fail-videos, and trying to get better at them before posting another one. Time will tell I guess.
What makes you think anyone cares about your point?
Lol. No-one made you read this thread, my posts, and post a reply of your own. You seem to care on some level. The very fact that you posted proves it.
Besides, who said anything about people caring? I saw something retarded posted, and commented on it. Whether or not anyone reading my response would actually care has nothing to do with it. If no-one truly cared, there would be no replies. We can go into a lesson in irony for you if you’d like.
Irony, it never fails.
Eh, no I just like feeding trolls.
Yawn.
Try again. I’m sure you can save face better than that.
Irony fails almost as hard as your attempts to use it in a sentence, or to post in general. Stupidity never seems to cease however, and I love to point it out. I sometimes even try to help the poor bastard learn from their mistakes. Your posts have provided plenty of opportunity for me to do both. Keep it up.
Shasta, have you ever heard the phrase “lowering expectations”. I’ll try to explain it to you. If you say something is amazing, then people judge it by higher standards, okay. If you say it’s shit, they judge it by more relaxed standards. It doesn’t make people think the video is any better, but it may make them more sympathetic to the poster.
HeadCrabeD’s use of irony is pretty accurate. I’ll explain that too. You said “I saw something retarded posted, and commented on it.” Now there are at least two ways this could be seen as ironic. Firstly you calling his post retarded, and then putting a retarded post under it to insult his post. Secondly if you’d never posted your first post, y’know the one telling him he should never have posted his video, well chances are few people would have commented and the thread would have died. Your remarks are the one that gave him most publicity. Well done.
Back on topic…
I saw it I actually thought it was really good. The music fitted it well, it picked up when you saw the flame, it was edited to a nice length and it captured the feeling of an international event passing through a small town (I don’t actually know where it is, no disrespect to your undoubtedly fine town ). I’m unlikely to ever see an Olympic flame so good stuff
I’ve seen Shasta post on this kinda stuff before. Same shit, different thread. Its a little bit pointless trying to argue, so I’d encourage people to watch it and offer much more useful and relevant feedback and support
