Perhaps a little late for Xen suggestions but here goes:

Something that Xen severely lacked was small details to make it convincing. You have your collossal plants, towers, tentacles and rocks, but really it’s the small things that make a place convincing.
If it’s possible (and I can understand if it’s not), Xen should have a plethora of small, lo-res plants and animals. I’m not suggesting anything major or gameplay-altering, just things that the player can see but not interact with.

The majority of Xen seems to be very similar to Earth in that it has the capability to support life, and if it can support the larger life, there has to be smaller lifeforms to support the food chain.
I’m thinking flying insects that look like tiny fireflies, or different variations on the boyds to make them bigger, smaller, different colours, or have different sounds. Perhaps you could have objects that look like clams or molluscs that are attached to rocks and rise slowly and then shut quickly.

I’m sure you’ve thought of that, but I want to see parts of Xen bustling with life, to want to zoom in just to look at everything up close. It’s going to make Xen one of the most technologically demanding levels, but if it’s the setting to the game’s finale, it needs to go out with a bang.
