Has the scientific community been working on methods to synthesize Telomerase riboprotines in such a manner as to slow or even stop this process, thereby preserving cellular regeneration at a constant rate?
I’m sure they have, but I’m a bioinformatician, so it’s not really my department. I’m not even certain that it’s possible; the issue is that over time, telomere sequences net so many mutations that the action of telomerase either isn’t enough to compensate or is prevented altogether. The best way to prevent aging would be to circularize human chromosomes, but the technical and scientific challenges in such an endeavour are frankly staggering.
So basically its probably possible to live forever, but you would die anyways? (I read somewhere that if someone did this, the body would produce more than nessesary cells, and it would develop into cancer)
I actually have no idea what this sort of thing would do concerning cancers and the like. The basic idea is, though, that bacteria are immortal (barring fatal mutations). This is because their chromosomes are closed circles, meaning that the entire chromosome can be replicated by DNA polymerase with no loss of information. Eukaryotes (the vast majority of multicellular organisms) have linear chromosomes; a straight piece of DNA open on each end. Theoretically if you could make the linear chromosomes circular you could greatly extend human life expectancy. Of course, it’s way more complicated than that; circularizing human chromosomes would have all sorts of weird consequences that I couldn’t even begin to imagine.
Mass Effect postulated that human life expectancy could be increased to around 200, but I remember hearing somewhere that the human brain can’t live past 120 or so. So even if people somehow figured out full cyberization a la Ghost in the Shell, their brain could still only live 120 years.
I remember that documentary. have you seen those clips of the inside of your body? life is a fucked up thing, and nobody’s staying around forever, not even in history or theory, the world is just a giant explosion and everything we know is the result of the “shit happens+time passes by” formula
O_o what the fuck?
Edit: Devs is it possible to model the controllers after him?
