Ways to cope while waiting for BM:S

Here is something you can try to pass the time. I call it Refresh and [Insert Task of choice here].
Just sit on the black mesa main page refresh and then look for a download link. If you dont see it you can do the task of your choice. Rinse then repeat.

As for me I like setting things on fire from orbit.

I use a saw.

Suuuuurreee you do.

I’m not even waiting for BM anymore, now I’m just browsing the forums when I have nothing else to do.

I lost hope a long time ago.

Haha coping saw I get it.

Waiting for Black Mesa is the only thing keeping me alive because that is the one game I want to play before I die. After that there is no point in living.

So if you guys want to see me dead quick, you better hurry up releasing the game already.

Drinking, lots and lots of drinking.

Time flies when you go on week long benders at a time. :jizz:

Left 4 Dead, Splinter Cell, APB, MW2, MGS3S, etc.

DO A BARREL ROLL!

One burbon, one scotch, one beeeeerrrrrrrr.

Don’t lie. You look at anime boobies.

The best idea as mentioned a few times on the forum is to just put BM out of your mind. Go play some other games and just forget about it entirely until one day you see a post on a tech blog saying it has been released.

This way you don’t get like the Gran Tourismo 5 people being disappointed year after year until it finally arrives. Valve’s first releases of their games have loads of bugs, BM will probably have quite a few.

I’d rather wait until beta testers have played through the game a number of times and fixes have been issued before playing.

It’s not likely to be coming this month and not next so that’s another 5 weeks. You just end up torturing yourself hoping for a release every month that comes along.

Even if the game is playable just now, it needs to be packaged in an installer and tested on a number of machine configs as well as testing the update process. Summer is holiday time so there is a chance more work will be done and it could be ready before the students etc working on it go back to uni around August/September but still, you will only be satisfied by the announcement of the release, not by the endless guesses and vague replies to them.

example 1 - summer of sadness:
disappointed BM fan: posts on bms.com is it coming this month?
random BM dev: Mmmmmaybe
disappointed BM fan: posts on bms.com is it coming this month?
random BM dev: Well it’s not out yet, that much we know
disappointed BM fan: posts on bms.com is it coming this month?
random BM dev: You posted this in the wrong forum
disappointed BM fan: posts on bms.com is it coming this month?
random BM dev: why not check our twitter feed that never gets updated any more?
disappointed BM fan: posts on bms.com is it coming this month?
random BM dev: it’ll be ready when it’s ready
disappointed BM fan: commits suicide :’(

example 2 - summer of love:
June: meet some girls, have some fun with the girls
July: go on a holiday, soak up some sun
August: Chill out, maybe do something productive. Maybe play some cool games that are out.
September: ooh notification of BM release on a tech blog

You sir win.

well… waiting for bms just makes me sad and nervous… i don’t rly wait for it anymore… i went back to half-life 1 instead… learned to love the original like it is now.
i already bought a new computer for bms… but now i noticed, that no modern game has the quality of half-life 1… i played quake4, mw2, cod4, bfbc2, ut3, the orange box, css, dods, hl2dm, ag2 and metro 2033… except metro2033, portal and q4… all these games weren’t that much fun…
i hope… one day… there will be a bms… and i hope it won’t be a disappointment… since most of the new games were disappointments and black mesa source won’t be true to it’s original… i fear, that it will become a new game with a completely different, slower, noobish and unbalanced gameplay… (wtf are they planning to change ammolimits, movement and multiplayer maps??)
ok… let’s hope the best… but i already lost pretty much of my optimism about this mod.

in the same way wait for episode 3, portal 2, AC: Brotherhood and the second coming. please refer to my sig.

besides you don’t need to persevere so much when you’re just exited.

What’s Black Mesa?

Omg, you are like the coolest person on the internet :expressionless:

One day I hope to actually BE the coolest person on the internet but until then I’ll have to settle for merely being like them.

This thread damages my faith in humanity.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
