It’s pretty interesting.
Being religious is like saying “I have no education and I have no knowledge about the universe”. :meh:
while being aethiest is like thinking that the above statement applies any less to them.
[COLOR=‘White’]I was considering replacing “thinking” with “living under the delusion” but I figured I’d be nice
I no longer discuss with religious people because no matter what evidence I throw at them they will never back away from their so called ‘facts’.
You cannot reflect that upon me because unlike religious people I have REAL evidence (from observation and carefull study) to back up my facts.
Being an atheist is more like admitting we don’t know that much about the universe, and setting out to learn more about it rather than saying some sky being made it.
Actually we know a shit load of things about the universe, just get into astrophysics, you will be amazed.
Being religious in no way stops a person from learning anything. Just because I know god is responsible for the way the universe works doesn’t mean I shouldn’t attempt to better understand god by learning the methods by which that universe he created works.
There mere act of claiming that religion is responsible for ignorance is in itself unscientific. There are just as many people who wrap their ignorance in unfounded scientific theory and ambiguous statistics that can be interpreted in whatever way suits a person as there are people who nurture their ignorance within badly mangled religious zealotry.
The only difference is that atheist can claim that those ignoramus who claim to follow the scientific method will always ultimately be swayed by logic and reason(nevermind how many actually won’t be swayed, just because), while those who believe in god shall forever remain trapped by their own beliefs.
Pshh.
If anything, believing in god allows me realize that there is more to the universe than that which can be observed. Love, Free Will, Responsibility… the list goes on, all just as important to the human condition, that will never be touched on by science.
I think I’ll actually make a topic about it in the off topic section sometime. You might find it interesting.
You know god is responsible? Cool. How did you find that out?
Maybe A god is, but as far as I can see there’s no proof for there being a god or not.
Also there are some christians who think we should just waste all the worlds resources. I mean jesus is coming again soon anyway, so why not fuck the earth over while we’re at it?
Religion gives excuses for ignorance. Anyone who is ignorant who says they follow the scientific method obviously hasn’t done so fully and/or the right way. Mrs. ground water rainbow lady for example.
There’s your first mistake.
Do you know that there are people who think that it’s okay to wipe out 80% of the worlds population because it’s a scientifically sound method to combat overpopulation of the planet? or that parents should not be allowed to teach their own children anything once they go to school? or that punishing people who are not politically correct is a valid method to acheive racial/gender/whatever equality?
anyone who says they are christian and uses it to excuse lynching someone obviously isn’t following their religion. See? works both ways.

The thing is the bible tells you exactly how to stone people.
