3 things: take the guard from the top of the elevator with you, use flares as a weapon, and you’ll find the crowbar through the vent in the main lobby.
also,they are called headcrabs.

EDIT: I am putting my EDIT up top
Madcat replied with some tips, thanks dude. I guess I am waiting around for the cop. Also, where do I get flares from? As for the crowbar, hopefully you guys can see how it is kind of easy to miss that. I was trying to run away from everything and ran straight through the lobby assuming that I needed to keep getting away from enemies since I had no weapon.
I mean, sorry, I had no direction in what to do and obviously made a post here just to get help, which I never do. I will cool my jets once I replay that portion and stay with the cop this time, I guess. It just kind of really sucked since I was playing that part for a good couple hours and ran right through the lobby everytime since there was no way of knowing I needed to stay there.

Awesome. That explains that part. It is just moved and it is pretty much impossible to miss.
Now the issue I guess I am having is that I feel stuck in the game. I get to where the security guard is and remember from HL1 that I could kill him super quick and take his gun (but no crowbar this time around, so that is not an option) or I could lead him with me (but I would need to assist him with the crowbar, so I can’t do that), or I let him die (which means I wait in the same room as him until the monsters kill him while hoping the monsters stay going after him).
My choice was to keep going. I went up a hall and a guy through a barrel at me Donkey Kong style. I dodged it, then ended up in some type of lobby where there were a few more dude in there, so I ran passed them, and then I ducked under the door that was jammed open. I can’t go very far because I see the train stuff is all messed up and there is a guy hanging from a chunk. He falls off and then there is nothing else to do out there.
I look around and all I see are unusable things out there (locked security door, eye scanner that no longer works) so if I turn around, I see the security office with a window busted open. It makes sense that since I can’t do anything else (either I run back to the cop, or I go through the window), it makes sense to go into the broken window.
The problem is that I can’t go through that broken window because the devs put a little monster guy there who kills me the moment I get close to the window. Well, I can get close to the window, let it him me, then run away towards the busted train station, but I eventually need to return back to that area and the little monster thing does not move very far away from the window (you know, I tried luring the little monster out).
So that is what I am stuck at. Yeah, I know, it is simple. It is going through a window, but I get killed when I try to go through the window. Since that little guy was there, I assumed that I missed the crowbar (and that it was the game that was glitched), but now I am finding out that I was moving along just fine.
I mean, am I missing something here, because that little guy that sits by the window kills me and once I get inside (which will happen on occasion), I have a matter of seconds to figure out what to do before that thing kills me before I have to reload a save and try it again.
I mean, I just feel like I am missing something. I am 99% sure I am supposed to go through that window to get into the security office, but I can’t because that little guy keeps killing me since I have no weapon.
Am I missing something, or is everybody dying 75 times trying to jump through a single window in the game?
Sorry again about the long posts, but I hope you guys can see and understand why. I truly feel stuck in the game, and it is super early in the game on the easiest setting, so it is really frustrating to be stuck so early in the game
Yeah, but as mentioned above, it wasn’t mandatory to complete it. You can beat Half-Life without crouch jumping.
No tips for me?
If they do not reply by the time I get home, I will see if I can figure it out. I pretty much need to replay a chunk anyway, so I will see if I get to that water part and if I figure it out, I will post up here.
When you reach the main entrance (where you arrived at the beginning with the tram) you have a big room. In this room you should be able to find a ventilation shaft that you can pass through. Right inside this shaft you will be able to spot something.
If you flooded the canals you should be able to find 2 holes.
1 the one you entered from.
2. One with a ladder to climb up on.
Have you searched the canals enough?
You’re going up the wrong opening. One of them the ladder is broken, that’s the one you go in, there’s another one where the ladder is there, just look around.
Where is the flare gun so I can defend myself while the cop is with me?
There are various flares on the ground in the very first hallway where you meet the guard.
Well that makes everything easier.
I did not even know that those flares could even be used as weapons (I assumed it was a flare gun and that the flares I could pick up like other objects, but that was it). I had no idea they could be used as a weapon. That is pretty awesome.
Yeah, there isn’t a flare gun, just flares. Keep your eyes open for red cylinders on tables and the ground up until you find the crowbar. Ninja’d.
Stuck after the guy opens the security room. Where do I go after he stays put and I get the first handgun?
Edit: Nevermind, I found it. The formerly locked door in the big room where you see the 2nd level walkway to the security room.
PS. Having fun! Loved HL2, loving new content!
I don’t think I like the jump+crouch thing being so mandatory… And the jump height is minimal… Gee…
Had to just start this Maps once again , thanks for help
Funny, the first time I played the game, said guard was acting brilliantly skilled and killed everything in sight.
The second time, however, he just wouldn’t shoot his darn pistol, which then led to him being choked to death by the zombie he was trying to “hug” for the past 10 seconds. :meh:
He still had ammo, btw (around 5-6 shots).
Sure, I could’ve just tried to find a flare, but it was just to funny watching him, as he tried to stare the zombies to death.
When the zombie gets right in the guard’s face, he won’t fire. You need to backpedal so the guard steps away.
That’s what I tried, he then somehow did backpedal, but still didn’t fire.
Then I ran in circles around the elevator exit - he tried to catch up, but changed direction and started to move back and forth.
When I stopped, he went back to his buddy, again (not firing a single shot).
Oh, and about that “he won’t fire” thing: How’s it that pretty much every single hostile NPC has a melee, but the guards do not?
…or do they have one?
Note: It’s nothing to worry about, I just thought it was kind of funny - how he stood there and watched…
As I said, I didn’t act because I thought it was interesting to watch (how the AI reacts in different situations, etc.).
This same thing happened for me only I set the zombie on fire with a flare while they were ‘wrestling’ which was even more comical to watch.
Wondering if any of you can help me with this:
Crawled through vents into control room, turned on the power:
