You’re kidding ? I found these vort sounds horrible, it’s not even remotely close to the ones in HL1 and make them sound like cheap winning aliens.
But since it’s more a matter of taste, can’t really argue after all

Well, thanks. It’s not like I’m here or anything.
100% agree with the pose change of the vorts.
I’m glad people support it! Hopefully it’ll be possible to make this change with the next patch?
Regarding their voices, I kind of like them sounding like the ones in HL2: it adds to the continuity. I’ve experimented with using their Ep2 voices instead, though, and that sounds pretty good.
I just took the sounds directly from Half-Life 1 for the BM vorts.
I want a vort skin that looks like that ^
Working on it
I kinda agree on the vort sounds, they were good for the the ally vorts in HL2/episodes but just sound like human mumbling, the original vorts sound almost insect-like in HL1.
Thus, they scared me a lot on the early chapters on my first breakthroughs, especially when you first encounter them in high numbers around Office Complex and hear them before you see them.
That wasn’t just honesty. There was some pretty clear spite in there.
“You’re kidding” Yeah, they couldn’t possibly endorse it because it’s so horrible. Come on.
The vort sounds didn’t quite sound Vorty enough. There’s HL1’s vort sounds which sound like alien bugs, then there’s HL2’s which sound a lot like a human, then there’s yours which sounds like HL2’s with the pitch modified. I wouldn’t say they were horrible but they didn’t seem to fit.
See? That’s how you do it.
Agreed, the vorts in h1 were really intimidating with all those sound effects. They had much more presence than the vortigaunts currently in BM…
The original sounds, and their movement made them menacing. I feel the animation changes this thread proposes would have a big impact on making them more intimidating to fight. They could use some remastered HL1 sounds as well, they made you feel like you really were fighting alien creatures.
And that drawing of the vort reminds me a bit of Giger’s style.
I definitely feel like the Half-Life 2-ish sounds on the Vorts don’t fit; it really makes sense that enslaved Vorts would have more crackly, higher-pitched, insect-ish voices (being enslaved is generally the justification for their weaker electric attack, after all, so it’s not like it doesn’t change them). I also love the fact that the only human word that they know is “die”, which I feel fits well with the implications of Questionable Ethics.
I agree to this suggestion, It would add a lot to atmosphere visually.
Although it is sort of odd that the already present animations weren’t implemented already, but I guess the devs didn’t want to go through all the trouble of decompiling the model.
Wow,
this animation suggestion is exactly what the alien slaves are missing. Without the aggressive pose, they don’t fit in as well as any other Black Mesa opponent. Please bring about a patch and include this change with it.
I’ll side with the brown reskin, too, but I guess that’s up to dev discretion how much they want to match HL2 or emulate HL1. Personally, I thought their pale green skin was due to living in the unhealthy environment of Earth. Brown is a healthier fresh-out-of-Xen shade for them.
Personally, I thought they looked TOO healthy. Too clean. Like, they have their species equivalent of fashion model complexion. They need more freckles and moles and scars and shit.
