I like cats. I wish I had a cat…

^shit, you’re just In the puddle someone made outside of it.
On topic: I hafta quit my job to go to school to get a better job fffffffff
I just got a recent dell xps laptop that was completely smashed into pieces, a friend’s girlfriend went crazy and smashed everything in his apartment, she broke the drywall ceiling and the bathroom tiles with it, among other things… i mean it was totally busted and smelled like the “magic smoke” that usually comes out of dead electronics, and after a bit of excavation (taking the motherboard out of what’s left of the case) I just got it to boot into windows, with a spare LCD that I had lying around for 2 years!
I can’t believe it still works, the original LCD was in like 7 pieces (we didn’t even find them all) and we only found 2/3 of the 6-cell battery lmao.
Yeah, I don’t get it either. For some reason, Americans are no longer allowed to be patriotic without being mercilessly mocked. People whine about ‘jingoism’ and things.
It’s racism, but in a different from. The fanatic patriotism related to this country annoys me too, but it doesn’t give them the right to belittle other people who’re as capable as they are.
i mean obviously america as a place is too big and too culturally diverse for any single stereotype of what individuals are like to be true but also as americans you probably cant appreciate what its like to feel the almost constant and often unwelcome presence of america and its influence in the lives of people almost everywhere else.
Concentrated stupid! It burns!
I think that idi hit the nail on the head. The USA are literally a bunch of states - with different historical, political and economical backgrounds, not to mention cultural heritage and traditions. That goes for a lot of countries, and that’s why stereotypes based on nationality are (almost) always wrong - sterotypes are by definition caricaturesque versions of the actual thing that they are representing.
That said, I’ve got relatives in Texas and a lot of times I feel that they fail to comprehend a lot of the stuff that I tell them about life in Argentina. A lot of Americans and, for that matter, people from any wealthy, first-world country find it hard to understand how privileged they are on most things, and that makes them seem stupid when they are just ignorant. Many Americans live in a bubble where real poverty and political corruption don’t exist, or at least not to the scale that you could find elsewhere.
Anyone who actually believes every American is stupid and/or fat is fairy stupid themselves. But keep in mind there’s also a lot of Americans who think similar or worse things about people from other countries. There’ll always be stupid people.
I’ve never understood patriotism. I don’t think you should feel proud of your country just because you were born on it. I understand if you prefer living in the USA instead of Rwanda or other extremely impoverished country, but why would you feel pride because of it?
“people have stereotypes about something that i identify with, i’m being bullied!”
the us is a big country with a lot of influence on a lot of people so there’s going to be a lot of opinions, how can you not expect that
S/He/It rarely has anything worthwhile to say, and usually it’s just some troll bait. That said, s/he/it lost credibility with me a LONG time ago, so I tend to ignore what s/he/it has to say.
Very true. Ignorance is the way in most corners of the internet, I suppose.
I’m trying to get my head around this is because I’m one of those people who likes to analyze the shit out of something so I can make sense of it.
I honestly don’t know what life is outside of having a bubble of cash and the ‘comforts of home.’ But I believe people make due with what they got, or at least they should. Self-sufficiency is something I will believe in until the day I die.
If you don’t mind, think you can PM me those details, I’m a bit intrigued about your lifestyle there.
Political corruption is rampant, it may not be as obvious here than in other countries. But it exists. Don’t get me started on my politics. lol
Agreed. I tend to think of people who think that as scum anyways.
To each their own. Many people have different things in their country that they’d be proud of. Mine’s guns and the freedom I get everyday to bitch about something (although everyone has the latter one in common usually).
That said, I don’t feel pride because I have it better over an impoverished country. It’s hard to explain why I love where I am.
Where did I say this? I just want to wrap my head around the mentality of this.
Would you rather me call you an introvert who can’t get out of the house? This is fairly subdued wording on my part compared to what I was thinking about using, I don’t feel like being a dick quite yet. Hold your tongue if you have nothing nice or of value to say.
I DO expect it as soon as I leave from my home country. That’s my problem, people’re going to mock and pick fights with me because of where I come from when I’m a fucking tourist in another land, you god damned idiot.
PM answered.
for real tho ive never been to a place were people have more weird and incorrect assumptions or no knowlege at all about where im from than america
No one is going to pick a fight with you unless you act like a fucking dick or get all self-righteous about how “merica is the best and free-est”.
unless you go to some really shitty country that is filled with people who literally have nothing but blind hate for the usa and want to kill/kidnap all its citizens[/SIZE]
^ I don’t trust people easily, call me paranoid, it’s just how I am. That said, I rarely pick fights and I’m a reasonable guy usually.
or maybe you have some prejudices to deal with
that’s exactly what idi said before you called him stupid
You have extremely strong beliefs about a whole range of experiences and circumstances which you will likely never encounter.
Don’t you see a problem there?
It’s hard to be self-sufficient when you’re born in the gutter. It’s hard to be self-sufficient when all you know is how to take care for others.
If there is one thing humans aren’t supposed to be good at, it’s self-sufficiency. One person can’t survive in the wild. We all depend on eachother for the simplest things.
I don’t understand pride in ones geographical location either, but apart from that, are guns really something to be proud of? Like, you don’t think the world would be a nicer place if bullets didn’t exist?
Your second point of pride is what people often find annoying in the mentality of some people in the US (NOT SAYING YOU). Sometimes Americans act like they invented democracy and like the US is a bastion of freedom in a dark and decrepit world, while (surprise, surprise) it doesn’t even do any better than Afghanistan (according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_in_the_World)
Seriously, what? I didn’t say anything remotely offensive. What’s with the hostility? Is your pride making your blood pump?
Since abstract reasoning doesn’t seem to be your strongest suit, I’ll spell out what I was trying to communicate with that (obviously hyperbolic) little sentence:
You were complaining about prejudices against the U.S. You were making it out to be a uniquely American problem. It is not a uniquely American problem. People face prejudice every day all over the world, based on lots of things besides country of residence.
After this fourth expression of prejudice on your part (smell the irony), I will spell out my point again:
Prejudices exist. They also exist against you. That’s all there is to it. There is nothing to understand, nothing to “wrap your head around”.
Being from the US doesn’t exempt you from other people’s stupid opinions. That’s what you’re complaining about here. That’s what you say not to understand.
see, i can write point-by-point passive aggressive walls of texts too
maybe I’m not an idiot after all?
I have some important advice for you, if you like not having a heart attack at age 30:
In the future, when someone tells you something that you find offensive, or something you find yourself disagreeing with, or something that seems to be based in ignorance; before drawing your conclusion about what the other person is trying to communicate, ask yourself: do my interpretation and their intention align, or do they diverge? Am I responding to what (I think) the other person said, or to what they intended?
You may find the world isn’t as polarised as you seem to think.
Black and white do not exist. They’re theoretical concepts to contrast the grey against.
also please remember that this is the fucking rage thread on a fucking video game forum
I think I’m the pinnacle of first world problems…
and that’s a problem.
Nope. That’s unnecessary prejudice. If you’ve never been out of the country how can you know that’s what will happen?
Act like a civilised human being and most people will treat you properly and with respect. There’ll always be idiots, but that’s true of every country (including your own).
@chickenprotector: I guessed you were American before I found out, just because you generally seem to think like a train, which is to say that your mind is only going one direction, and diverting your thought process into another direction would probably cause it to derail and crash. Take this current discussion for example. You ask earnestly for why people often hold prejudice against Americans, and then you argue every single point that comes up. This is American type behavior, stop acting like an American. Also, Americans often take things way to seriously, which is about to be demonstrated I think, quite shortly.
