THE RAGE TOPIC

i am upset that this question https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=8192

wasn’t taken more seriously than a lock. i found this question very insightful and achingly appropriate.

For fucks sake, Gamers first are all either retarded, or trolling for shits.

For the last fucking month, we have been telling people that headshots in APB are a FUCKING BAD IDEA, and explained it eightteen fucking hundred times, and what does the latest blog post say? “lol we wan bulletproof vests to done sumthin so we gon add headeshots lol umad”

:rage:

Wait, people play APB?

what the fuck is APB and why are headshots a bad idea?

It was a highly anticipate MMO a several months back that flopped terribly.

No, it was a free fan-made FPS released a year or two ago, based on Red Alert (using Renegade’s engine).

so why are headshots bad? they generally seem like the way to go in an FPS, i’d like to shake hands with the one that broke the mold

APB was a tactical third person shooter. SERIOUS emphasiss on tactical. Chokepoints, bluff tactics, flanking (for real, COD and counterstrike do not count) Etc. They had tried headshots in an earlier build, and it just degenerated into a twitchfest. Also, player customization was so high that you could even change your height/weight/muscles/etc. Stuff that either made you a big person or a little person. In APB, that didn’t matter. One hitbox, and a a bright red name above your head meant that no matter your size, you were just as hittable and visible as the next guy. Introducing headshots would mean either changing hitboxes to match size, which would mean no more sane people over four and a half feet tall, or they would have to remove height customization.

Unfortunately, it cost $100 million to make, had to be forced out early and never had any advertising. Not to mention that all the reviewers saw guns and instantly thought it was the new COD theft auto, and didn’t know what strategy was beyond clicking on someone’s skull.

Hnnnnnnggggg VEVO not letting me watch music video because country.

oh, that actually sounds pretty awesome. kinda like brothers in arms, except sounds better. how big were the maps? if there was real flanking, i imagine they were pretty big.

There were two “action districts” which were MASSIVE. When not in a mission, you could just drive around and do whatever on the map, blaring your ingame music editor songs over your car speakers for all to hear, or something. When you were set to “ready” the game would randomly pick a mission, and where the objectives were going to be placed/what they were, and you would begin. The game would then find another person/group of people that were near your “threat level” and oppose them against you.

Check these out, I’ve been watching them again while I wait for G1 to get it back up and running:
