Why the fuck is Vampire Weekend so liked? I don’t get it.
Why does everyone like this hipster trash? They only play pretty much max 4 chords per song, and still manage to make it sound like a fucking mess. They’re all talentless shitheads. And what do they get? Critical and commerical acclaim. (I mean seriously, how do you manage to make a 4 chord song with a 4/4 time signature sound messy?)
Just listen to Holiday, and say to me with a straight face that that is good music.
They throw in some weird sounds and then call it experimental. Just how fucking pretentious can a band get?
That shit isn’t experimental. The Mars Volta, that’s experimental. They also use plenty of weird sounds and whatnot, but those sounds actually add something to their music and they make great music with intricate harmonies and complex time signatures, shit that requires some goddamn talent to make. But of course they aren’t commercially very successful (by far not as much as Vampire Weekend at least), because they’re too different. No but Vampire Weekend is just a little different, that’s why it’s popular. In a few years that music will be mainstream, then nobody will like em any more because hey that’s how a hipster works. But the Mars Volta will be something you can let your son listen to when you’re older, just like my dad introduced me to bands such as Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
I just can’t stand people liking a band because it’s different in the most pretentious way there is.

Cousins is a pretty good track, as is A-Punk. So in my book, that makes 2 decent tracks by Vampire Weekend and 0 decent tracks by Mars Volta.

Listened to Cousins. Just as terrible as the rest of their music. It sounds like they just started randomly pounding their instruments.
And then there’s some pretence of a ‘guitar solo’ that I could’ve played before I played guitar.
And then the drummer finds out he has a crash cymbal and starts abusing it like mad.
A-Punk is half decent, music wise. Though that guitar tune is still stupid. I like the little strange break with the flute.
But it’s still really, really boring.

And then there’s the Mars Volta. Just listen to those drums, those guitar tunes, the singing. It’s also really energetic, but it’s actually good.
However, I just took the Mars Volta as an example here. Basically, every band is better than Vampire Weekend.
I could also name Tool, Muse, Dream Theater, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, Billy Talent and so on. And the last 3 of those also make simple music. Nothing fancy. Coldplay usually only uses about 4 chords and 4/4 time signatures, but they actually pull it of to make the songs sound interesting even if it’s not complicated. Same goes for Snow Patrol. Billy Talent has an occasional simple solo, their songs are just good fun. Any member of Dream Theater could put all the members of Vampire weekend to shame. I bet John Petrucci can drum better than their drummer, play keyboard better than their keyboardist and well guitar and bass goes without saying. That guy’s insane. I’m gonna stop right here because honestly I can’t be assed to continue explaining why Vampire Weekend sucks.

I believe that to make music, you need to have a certain idea of how the instruments work you’re playing, and need a sense of rhythm. (Vampire Weekend has neither) Crazy huh?
