The main thing I was trying to get across was my take on Xen and my idea for the ending scene with the destroyed tanks and soldiers. I was trying to keep this on the topic of Xen.
That page went too fast.

I think it would be quite cool if the BM team came up with creative ways to transition between maps besides teleportation. There should be some teleportation in Xen, particularly near the Nihilanth, to signify the Nihilanth’s universe-travelling abilities. But using teleportation as the only map transition just seems lazy and completely removes any kind of spacial continuity between “islands”. I very much enjoy the idea of the manta ray at the beginning of interloper not simply flying Gordon to the teleporter, but, rather, flying him all the way to the next map. (Also, it needs to be slightly clearer that you’re meant to ride it.)
I love Xen. Fighting in this surreal alien world was so atmospheric and I loved all of it, including its different gravity, puzzles, difficulty, and what I liked a lot was performing those awesome jumps with Longjump module.
THis part really had sense of danger and froced me to use best weapons I had, meanwhile finding ammo was more rewarding as well.
So, if it is about ideas, then how about introducing a new weapon to be foud on xen?
But what worries me is that Vortigaunts are OP at black mesa, as theyr energy casting cooldown feels too short and as they change theyr stance, which make landing headshot on them very difficult, therefore when fighting with many of them at once things can get pretty ugly without weapon to put them down very fast. But I don`t mean to make them less on Xen, because they adds sense of danger, so I like it anyway.
Well, don`t have more ideas atm. Either way I love Xen.
All those floating pieces of islands are ugly in Xen
Never liked this level, it seems not right at all
Nothing is native to Xen.
Although, it’d make sense if a buoyant, coral-like species from another universe was teleported to Xen somehow and now makes up most of its land masses. It explains why there would somehow be floating islands in a dimensional haitus.
pettifogg read the canon for half life, the vorts are native to xen so is all its plant life, most every thing else isn’t.
also native to it are chumtoads (cut), antlions, the flying things at the end, and the final boss.
sorry I need to check my sources of info before posting.
I think there’ll be some new achievements, like getting killed by the Gonarch, or baby headcrabs, dying by falling to the bottom of Xen, killing the gonarch, killing the nihilanth, dying by the nihilanth, maybe a hidden something, choosing the right choice, choosing the wrong choice etc.
I was really perplexed when I saw those two achievements for dying, for the player it really rubs it in. "achievement unlocked- ‘LoL U noob’: drown in the Lambda Core coolant.
I always found Xen to be an ugly, stupid looking place. I hope the devs can make it look awesome this time around.
I know there will be major raging by the purists, but I think Xen needs a big redesign.
Just an idea but how about a surfing section to get across to other parts.
see surf game play in this vids

obvoiously not a loop track but like a traversable section to another map… With alien textures on the surfaces with the beautiful xen skybox
“Gordon don’t Surf” as opposed to “Charlie don’t surf”
uff…this damn surf stuff again!
I played it in tf2 mod map and I sucked so badly.
It’s thousands times tougher than it seems!
I never played the surf stuff but seen it plenty of times…
I made the suggestion based on a different method of travel and seeing as physics are all messed up in xen anyway thought it could be plausible.
Never knew it was so difficult
If you wanna know more about it:
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Surfing
The problem is that you have to surf (strafe keys+ mouse) and shoot at the same time.
Don’t know, maybe could intresting in BM.
just an idea obviously there are like all this little islands in space just thinking of another way to reach different areas with surf brushes.
For single player xen not multi-player neccesarily
Ronster, I like the idea of implementing some new system into Xen. Plus you could say that the Longjump Module allows these manoeuvres. But watching the videos you linked, I don’t think doing it in that particular way would really fit in. Also, it would certainly need some sort of tutorial to let players know when exactly they should try such things out.
I play surf a lot, I can say this it will not fit in xen. that and getting to the point that you can make simple jumps takes hell lot of time for some people.
I’m pretty sure the BM team is trying to make Xen less annoying. And I’m pretty sure adding surfing would only make it even worse.
sorry did not realise it’s that difficult… That guy Is good at it then lol
fair enough
