Good idea! or multiple swirling vortexes… and electric discharges… make xen some kind of hell or so…
I think that with a long endless fall with a fade away is enough.
ok, yes… but how about swirling vortexes and turbulences in the skybox in later levels of xen…
yeah, similar like this… (i saw this pic somewhere here before)… But i would prefer it without stars in the skybox. and i m not so sure about the clouds underneath…
I would prefer a skybox like this:
looks more like another dimension and not just like somewhere in space… maybe in darker colours… and then add swirls, but very very far in the background of course…
I’m okay with stars in the skybox… if there’s also enough other bizarre, non-star stuff in the skybox to make it clear that it’s not normal space.
Maybe it looks like those flying Islands on Pandora in Avatar
Tbh I really just want Xen as it was. Just better looking. At the very least I don’t think anything explicitly new should be added. Xen is xen.
If you fall into the void of xen it might be interesting to see those disintergration effects from HL2 with the combine balls… Or a modified version of this effect… In that you disintergrated fade to black.
It would be nice to see some more Combine references than just Nihilanth’s scars and bracelets, but I’m not sure if it’s storywise.
something that always bugged me was that part when you are ahead the Nihilanth’s portal, a scientist says “Get him out of there! Shut down the equipment and someone get him out!” but it sound to low that is hard to hear.
^ Wait, what? I’ve never heard that and I’ve gone through HL a few times…
that’s from blue shift, and it was added to the game in a random location in one of the main HD pack for half life.
Wow, that would be climactic… put that in… coming out of the nihilanth portal or so…
really? but i always used the old original textures.
maybe is steam version thing who knows…
its hard to hear cause sounds pretty low and there is ambience sounds at the same time, you must put all sound volume high from the game and pc in order to hear it.
just played through xen again, i didn’t hear it, just a note could it be from the one living scientist that’s in xen?
always wondered why there was one scientist in xen that’s alive, love that he was there just wish they kept him constant aka why didn’t he have a hev suit.
@up
You must stand very close to the red teleporter that leads to Nihilanth’s chamber. You will eventually hear horror sounds (named horror1.wav, horror2 etc. in game files, if I recall correctly) and you will clearly hear someone speaking, but very incomprehensively. Those horror sounds are used in CS zombie mod anyway ;p
Those sounds are perfectly climatic and quite scary, it’s a must in BM’s Xen.
A vehicle is an interesting idea, but you’d have to have a very large and open area for it to be worth using. It might not be worth the trouble to put in this release, but if possible I’d love to see it implemented in a mod of the mod. I think it should look more like a lunar rover, since it is an exploration vehicle on another world:
They wouldn’t; zombine sprint because they have cybernetic implants in their brains, so they retain some of their pre-programmed behaviour. HEV suit zombies would just be regular humans so that wouldn’t happen,
yes but the HEV suit has things that improve moter functions like sprinting (why else would you have a jump section in a course on how to use the thing). so that should still be engaged allowing the zombie to sprint or run… yeh doesn’t make much sense now that I think of it.
my IDEA for a HEV zombie
looks: zombie wiht HEV suit chest area has been completely removed by the zombies claws reviling the work suit under it and some wiring from the HEV suit, the claws them selves are more limited with only 2 or 3 instead of all 5 this would be because of the armor mesh, and half of them should still have the long jump module even though they can’t use them.
function: do to the automatic systems of the HEV suit the zombie can take more damage and doesn’t have an as decayed walk as the normal zombie. do to the energy based armor of the suit some HEV zombies would still have armor allowing them to take more hit. attack wise this zombie is stronger both do to the medication injected into the scientist do to the wounds they had and do to the suit its self. hey its xen might as well have a stronger zombie even if it is rare.
edit on the HEV zombie thing: found a old skin for half life https://gamebanana.com/hl/skins/48602
edit2 on HEV zombie found why I wanted it to move like the zombine it was that way from modcom https://www.moddb.com/mods/modular-combat/images/modular-combat-20663#imagebox to bad that mod went quite.
Note on the dead HEV scientists it is common knowledge that they used the glon gun (2 in the armory and there was lots of ammo for it near the bodies) would be nice to see some HEV bodies to still have it equipped on them. also would be nice for some of them to have the long jump on as that was a common equipment for the recon teams.
