Safe? Nothing is safe, safety is an illusion.
Also I think psp=banana should be a meme, but it’s just an old inside joke

/thread
dus. nederhomo is nu een meme.
^
I would like to start by saying that to intentionally oppose the overt purpose of a thread, in the off-topic region, is incredibly stupid.
Furthermore, it is shameful how quickly one jumped to say that meme generation is a failure, calling them “forced”.
If it was not immediately apparent, the purpose of this topic is to allow everyone to express intricate social commentary in a way reminiscent of 4chan, for all of us too proud to dive into that shit-basket ourselves. It is here we are able to draw upon our observations and project them into the world.
For example, the concise observation of ants (potentially) evolving to utilize humanly materials to protect their colony, in much the same manner humans began to develop such intricacies, could be expressed no more shortly than ant bunker.
This may not be a meme, but it is the closest intelligently formulated one-author counterpart to one. Hence, it belongs here.
To turn this subject into an enthrallingly shallow-minded debate not at all short of rudeness (“Fuck out”) as to the pure origins of so-called ‘memes’, to summarize this topic and attempt to end it contrary to the author’s wishes, is nothing short of the bastardization of creativity, and the attempt to shun all mind-ramblings as if they should only be generated by an inept community of individuals is simply a denial of humanity.
But I am not afraid to express my less important thoughts, my humanity.
And I invite the rest to do the same.
^ screwed me over lots of times.
I hated those ‘Z’ shaped pieces.
OP needs to stop pretending about the thread’s actual importance
I’ve been meaning to point this out for a while, but you seem to go to great lengths to show off your vocabulary and the specificity of language you use in your posts. And yet all it results in is meandering ‘purple prose’ style over-written nonsense that’s tedious in the extreme to read, and uses twenty words to express what could be better said in five. Brevity is your friend, learn to appreciate it and I might actually make it all the way through one of your posts without wanting to slit my wrists.
That is all, carry on.
I’ve tried that on numerous occasions, and oftentimes I’m actually able to express my ideas concisely… but that usually only surfaces when a subject matter is concrete. (Procedural programming, for instance.)
In less physical matters, in the realm of ideas (a sort of placid congeal), my sentences become gunked up in the quest to let a blurry image manifest in your head with an equal quality as I’d seen it.
Thus, to summarize in five words this particular image that’s relatively easy to grasp:
My analogy is image compression.
Is this from experience, or just sarcasm?
If the book helped you (and you reference it specifically for more than just its title), then I would begin to consider it. But I’m frankly not impressed by the excerpt.
It’s a good book. I used to be similarly verbose in my writing until, at my mother’s prompting, I read some carefully-chosen parts of Plain Words. Since then I’ve learned to scale it down, and not to use six words when one will do (or a six-syllable word when a one-syllable word will do).
It takes a lot more skill to write clearly and concisely than it does to use verbose language, and it’s especially important to do so on the 'net, since not everybody is a native English speaker. For that reason, it’s a good skill to have. For the record, Plain Words is considered a seminal work by many professional writers.
An example of what I’m talking about:
Could become:
The translated version contains the same meaning, but is a lot easier to read, especially for the above-mentioned non-native English speakers.
I see, I do see… Though, is not some of the art of writing lost?
I admit, skimming through my words makes them indecipherable. But at times, multisyllabic words (when spoken) weave a beautiful web of language… if only readers were assured to appreciate these intricacies. I suppose that’s a lot to ask for a web-forum.
a funny relevant story:
The first sentence of my first assignment for my first college English course was, unbeknownst to me, written in iambic pentameter. (The professor had noted it… and I think that good first-impression helped my grade later on.)
Iambic Pentameter?!
COMMA STORM!
How’s that off-topic?
And
So shove a sock in it.
Btw, you and Com[E]r tend to share a lot - along with other shite, you both were trying to quote my siggy.
Don’t use bean’s words when not prompted to, dippy (in plain words - backseat moderating is bad).
Being in the Off Topic forum does not give you carte blanche to ignore the topic of a thread.
That said, the topic of this thread never even really got going and I can’t see anyone returning to it. Locked.
