So, would you rather have the thread actually accomplish something beyond “Does this poll work? It doesn’t? Okay, cool,” or just go nowhere and eventually die pointlessly?

The thread has served its purpose. It has retired and is now on social-security. But it is still healthy and capable of taking care of itself. I believe it should be free to follow its own dreams, hobbies, and passions now instead of being shoved into an old-threads home where it has nothing to do but play thread-bridge with some other lonely threads.
