Seriously, missing content restoration mod or something.
I would say “Black Mesa Uncut”, but that would imply that it’s the entire game (not including Xen) with the Uncut levels. I think “Black Mesa: The Uncut Levels” could be a good name for the bundle of the two Uncut projects.
Edit: Then again, ST and OaR Uncut both expand the BM campaign so I think the one I suggested would suit the bundle more than the latter one I mentioned.
Surface Tension and On a Rail Uncut.zip keep it simple!
how about Surface Tension On A Rail Uncut?
Come to think of it, I think that name suits the bundle of ST and OaR Uncut more than “Black Mesa: The Uncut Levels”.
“Rail Tension” perfect :3

Text, if this is a screenshot from OaR Uncut’s outdoor area, I think you should rename it to “On A Rail - Uncut Derailment”. This must be from B2 map work you did late last Friday night after celebrating the end of your exams with your buddies. Had three drinks too many, maybe? I hope you weren’t weaving back and forth like these rails as you were walking home. I guess Gordon travels on foot after this, which is a nice change of pace. I think I can make out a security office, just up ahead. The security fence around it doesn’t seem like it will offer much protection, if there’s a security guard there. Wasn’t the B2 map supposed to take place at nighttime? Consider removing most of the trees and put in more cactuses (or cacti, if you prefer).
I gotta hand it to you though, this looks damn realistic. Your mapping skills have definitely improved by leaps and bounds!! The details and lighting are incredible (although the shadows look unrealistic). Have you updated the mod using the new Source 2 engine?

Hey TextFAMGUY1. How’s work going on ST Uncut 2.0?
Not good. Had a busy week of family commitments (unforseen!) until today, and this morming my phone line died, losing me the internet. The BT Engineers say they’ll have it fixed by the 11th June. So much for my starting work on dedicated mapping! With Steam’s offline mode being very intermittent and me not being able to check here for updates easily (using my phone’s 3G currently), you probably won’t see any work till next week. I’ll call this week my (well deserved) week off and will start mapping for reals next week.
Sorry for the delay guys, but what can I do, eh? Weird twists and turns!
Sorry about your internet problems right now, but don’t worry, Text. We’ll be waiting very patiently.
Funny thing is that I ended up reinstalling Black Mesa 3 days ago because I thought I messed up on reverting my game to the way it was before installing the Uplink mod (game crashed a couple times when I was being attacked by the HECU marines in a building during the last map) so I decided to delete the entire game and install it from scratch. Now I keep the installation files (got them from gamefront) in case something goes wrong with the current one.
Don’t worry about it Text, this is BMS Forums, those of us that are still here are very used to waiting, we’re practically experts at it now. Just enjoy unexpected freetime you have, courtesy of your ISP. :3
Also a bit late, but congrats on completing uni!
Take your time Text, you’ve a well deserved rest!
-also, I thought ST Uncut is done for good, and no more updates will happen. Guess I was wrong
What exactly is there left to improve?
Feedback for Surface Tension Uncut V1.11 (cont.)
Map C2A5H
- Just before the Alien Grunt throws the HECU marine towards this wall, there’s already blood over here. Could you make it so that the blood would appear right after the marine hits the wall?*

BT actually fixed my line issue, free of charge, quicker than they said they would. I am genuinely shocked, but pleased. I’ve already started up a 9 - 5 routine for mapping, beginning today. I’ve been whizzing along fixing up problems here and there, and am looking for a Wednesday-Thursday release for the beta version of ST Uncut 2.0, of which there will only be 1 testing version for the public before final release. OaR Uncut still needs to be finished, and I’m eager to move onto that with my newly recharged batteries.
Had my first full day of mapping for ST Uncut 2.0, though I’ll probably carry on into the evening as I’m having fun. Over the course of today I’ve tidied up most of the loose ends on C2A5G, and it’s practically (aside from a few minor problems which I know about) ready to ship and show off.
The most significant change which has been made recently is the office block after the helipad is pretty big now. Though not terrifyingly expansive or massively impactful on the overall experience, it does add a neat little 5 minutes of exploration for more inquisitive players. In fact, it’s entirely skippable - the player can still just go through the security doors into H like they could in previous versions. Or they can choose to explore that office block, collect some goodies, find some cool things. It also helps to make the 2 maps (G and H) feel more connected, as well as making the Helipad have more believable surroundings, far moreso than in 1.11. I’m happy with how it’s turned out. I can’t really expand it any further than I already have due to the entity/brush limits, but it’s turned out a decent enough size.
The reason I’m writing this down is because I want to increase my community involvement, which admittedly tapered off a lot towards the end of university, for obvious reasons. I’d like to get myself as involved with the community as I was during the development of ST Uncut/early OaR Uncut. It just works…better I think.
So, here’s my question for everyone. One of the criticisms which I’ve heard levied at ST Uncut quite a few times is that the player spends too much time observing battles between NPCs (car park, outside garage, helipad, Abrams fight, bathroom snarks vs zombies, headcrabs vs HECU in furnace, Garg vs Marines in I), and not enough time actually fighting. While I would argue that I’ve only added 2 fights which weren’t in HL1 (car park and snarks vs zombies), I can see the reasoning behind such a criticism. As a result, I’m going to add some player oriented conflicts to the offices next to the helipad.
My question is, what sorts of encounters would you like to see in the office block? At most I’ll have 3, but it’s more likely that there’ll be 2. My current plans were for a Zombies vs Player fight in the storage room, and a AGrunt/Vort vs Player fight in one of the offices. All HECU in the office block will be already dead, to explain the alien presence and lack of HECU.
If you can think up of interesting but REALISTIC scenarios for combat in the offices, I’d be happy to hear it. I was considering Houndeyes but the problem is the focus of the latter half of Surface Tension is generally on the Xenian military. Otherwise, I’ll just stick with my current plan!
Houndeyes could use some love…
In small areas they are really scary.
Player enters a room with a health or armor dispenser. Player charges up. When the player turns around, the exit has been blocked by a Grunt.
Ya, release dem hounds.
