Well I wouldn’t commit suicide for both theological and personal reasons. But life can be rough sometimes; and it’s not comforting to say to someone “hey he has it worse so just stfu you have no excuse.” If you really want to dissuade someone from killing himself or herself, you have to first empathize - or at the very least, sympathize - not put them down.

You are right. There are lots of people starving to death in the World, people being beaten, tortured, suppressed for their beliefs, discriminated… and 99% of them still don’t kill themselves.
I’m not saying that most people who tries or succeeds about suicide is wrong, no, not at all. But it makes you wonder why some people think about suicide.
Sometimes the answer is that we don’t actually consider suicide as an option. It is just a mental experiment, like two friends saying “It would be fun to take a weapon and start shooting people around lol”. But if you give the healthy suicidal a gun, he will drop it and say “Why they hell did you give me that for?”
Of course there are crazy people that actually think about suicide, that’s another issue. But there is also a lot of needy, lazy people that pretend they want to commit suicide just to get attention and whatever they want (money, job, etc).
I don’t think suicide is a problem in modern society at all. I mean, how many suicides have you witnessed? No, I don’t mean people that say “Oh shit my life is so pointless I want to commit suicide”, I mean actual suicidal people. There was one suicide in the university I study, but there are thousands of students. Oh, and an old friend from school.
Let the family of the suicidal and doctors deal with them and let’s focus on more important problem, like crimes, drug dealing, discrimination, divorce…

First world people who kill themselves often lack the “Who gives a shit what they think” attitude.
Suicide is the betrayal of your own genes.
I mean, for almost 4 billions years those genes have been competing for survival, probably against all odds, and then they come to an end because some dumbshit emo teenager think they’re having a hard time.
At least that’s just my primitive view of it.
That doesn’t just count for suicidal people, but also for people who don’t have children.

that pretty much summs up what suicide means to me.
What we have to take into account, is that while there are people getting beaten and have illness and starvation, all those things provoke a natural, physical response to survive. So while physically they are way worse off than anyone over here, the constant adrenaline of just living keeps them from a suicidal state.

The conclusion that I draw from this is that people should stop living hidden, afraid of trying different things: different ways of thinking, places, interacting with new people, etc. Give yourself an objective, a challenge, and pursue it with all our heart.
One of the most exciting things I’ve done lately is trying to say what I have on my mind. It doesn’t matter if I don’t know the person I’m are talking to, and I try not to be shy. The challenge I’ve given myself is to talk to strange people without feeling awkward and without having them think I’m weird or crazy. The more smiles I get back, the happier I get
