Some new attacks for the Nihilanth?

I think that after seeing the Nihilanth the screen should fade to black and it would say “Finish the fight”

Last time I completed the game, that end boss was real pain in the ass because I was having a bunch of physics bugs… Getting stuck everywhere, trampolines not working half the time, … Let’s just say that Quick Load key was used a lot.

But yeah, that final fight should be more… exciting. That boss in… op4 I think, with these guns to blind the beast… was more fun than nihilanth :stuck_out_tongue:

In Half-Life: Source the Nihilanth was very annoying because he teleported me into the chamber again and again. :jizz:

umm… why jizz face?

Oh, I thought it would say that I’m annoyed of that nihilanth fight, but if it isn’t suitable, sorry.

no need to apologize i was thinking something else :jizz:

I would like to see something similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUNJKXN_SPs
The gfx of the advisor interfering with gordons brain. (around 1:00) Maybe everytime he speaks. Even outside the battle.
And the part, where the advisor tears the house apart at 3:30. Of course there is no house in the nihilanth battle, but what about letting crates or dead scientist fly around? i think it woul look awesome and powerful, which the nihilanth is meant to be.

That does sound pretty awesome. Just as long as Nilianth doesn’t tear a pillar out of the ground and swing it as a giant club like something out of Shadow of the Colossus.

That would be AWESOME. :awesome:

Does anyone know the mod “Portal: Prelude”? I’d like to see something like GLaDOS did at the final battle, she dashes the player through the whole chamber with her “telecinetic powers”. That could also the Nihilanth, too, if everybody here wants him to act like an advisor.

perfect idea. really should be included, assuming that its the very last part of the game (dont quote me on gman.) then i think its not done yet, maybe the devs are still in time to do that, we all want a perfect game.

When I made this thread, I was also complaining about the fact that I’d like to end the game in a “climax” because I didn’t like the fact that the original encounter was so… plain. This is why I suggested an attack in the moment the head of the nihilanth opens, that was also similar to one of the attack of the alien controllers.

So, I was thinking… what about a final explosion? an energy ball over the exposed brain of the nihilanth begins to grow and you have to kill it BEFORE it’s finally unleashed. This could be a better way to speed up the climax

I was playing STALKER the other day and the poltergeists in the lab complex gave me a few ideas… in the leadup to the nihilanth if it’s voice whispered to you or ominously grumbled and dead bodies and random objects were thrown around by a disembodied force it might increase a sense of dread…

and if the nihilanth also launched orbs that had physical effects like setting stuff in a certain radius on fire (jump in a pool of water), sent surges of electricity in a certain radius which also travelled through water (jump OUT of the water), sucked you into a whirlwind, threw you against a wall… larger platforms on the walls of the chamber with boulders on them that could be toppled off to damage the nihilanth crippling it in some way (or thrown off by telekinesis by the nihilanth to damage YOU)

Not saying implementing all of these would be a good idea, but compared to the rest of the enemies in Half Life which attack more directly, the Nihilanth being this mysterious spellcaster is something which could be expanded upon.

Though devs have said there would be no new attacks or weapons and this is very late in the development cycle anyway (I hope).

The Nilhilanth’s voice does whisper to you :hmph:

How about Nihilanth throwing things at you. I dunno. Since you’re in a big round chamber with about 3 feet water… How about he uses the water to push you out from hiding.

I always thinked the Nihilianth should combine his attacks with the ‘‘bodyguards’’ that he teleports and the ‘‘boss chamber’’. Like giving a vortigaunt more power and/or health with his electrical balls, take a vort with telequinetic powers and throw it to you, do the same as the vortigaunt I said before but with a rock instead of a vortigaunt, smashin’ some of your cover rocks and with telequinetic powers make the pieces of the rock levitate to give him cover or to throw them to the player…

and all that crap

What about the end ? I’d like to be able to challenge the beasts instead of accepting the offer ^^. Why not an alternative ending where Freeman would actually be abandonned ?

About the boss I think it needs more “scary” graphics like fading, blur plus breathing , heartbeats , voices, voices from dead people :stuck_out_tongue: those sort of thing you know, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUNJKXN_SPs the advisor encounter isn’t bad… But F.E.A.R. impressed me a lot on this point.

I didn’t like Nihilanth at all. I always avoided the green teleport orbs, because those “extra” levels where Nihilanth teleports you are so annoying. It’s all about standing on small rocks, falling down again, and getting killed by controllers on the way up. I don’t like the way you kill him, shooting the crystals and then his brain, it’s a bit stupid. I don’t know, I think there should have been some more thinking involved rather than just hiding and trying to jump up high to shoot his brain out. Like in Portal, killing GlaDos was fun, it wasn’t annoying and it made sense. I don’t know what could be done to make the Nihilanth fight better, but it kinda sucked in HL1. Just like most of the Xen part, like the Gonarch. That was retarded! “Just shoot it till you’re out of ammo. It will then go away.” How original!

I’ll repeat the same idea I posted in the last two or three Nihilanth threads: give the guy the ability to psionically lift shit up and chuck it at you. Like, for example, those huge stone spikes you spend most of the battle hiding behind.

cristals showld be on top of plataforms so youcant see them from the bottom and you have to get up to breack them. and stones dhowld breack once nihilanth has atacked them alot, we wont know how nihi ai will worck perhaps its super smart and hard
