The devs should just port the whole game to the mod version.
It’s the only thing that would be fair.

Pretty sure that would be literally impossible due to Source 2007 engine constraints.
I mean you could do it if you take away all the things from the Steam version.
Why is it only fair that the devs give everyone something they’ve poured years into for free? They don’t owe us a free game.
Now, I would say the devs owe Xen to those who bought early access (and I have every confidence in them. They’ve earned my trust.), but that’s because we paid them for the promise of more content. I know that, what, 2-3 years ago they planned for the game to be free? But things change.
I think he was joking, guys.
It would be impossible, anyway.
the devs don’t owe anybody anything.
Game developers are just human beings who happen to make games. If you want to hold them up to higher standards of conduct, then go ahead
…but don’t be surprised if they don’t uphold them
I think we alredy got a fair size of extra content. - improved graphics, multiplayer, all the possibilities of Steam Workshop, and now ST: Uncut… nah, the devs owe us nothing, Yet they are giving us a lot of quality stuff. I say patience.
< by the way guys, my brother started playing with Black Mesa like yesterday… he is quite impressed! >
A rule for future purchases: when you’re buying something that’s in early access, think if you’re ready to pay for the product that’s already there and not for what’s promised. If not, don’t buy that particular product.
Anyone know that Source 2013 SDK is out for download? Why not port it to that?!
I got ST: Uncut for free on ModDB. The same creator also released On A Rail: Uncut (beta) for free on ModDB. Keep in mind that it obviously is different from what CC made recently.
They CAN by making the whole game free and then accepting donations. That’s what loads of freeware devs do. But that’s beyond my control. I’m damn sure there are kind souls out there that have too much money on their hands and would donate to Crowbar Collective’s cause.
If you think donations could match up to what a retail product can offer, that’s insane and unrealistic. Could never happen. Why do you think serious businesses don’t use that model? We wouldn’t have even be able to cover 25% of the cost of the engine license. It’s been proven time and time again that a donation model for mods, simply doesn’t work. It might be sustainable for a small time, but if you want to work as a serious business delivering a professional product, you won’t ever beat going retail. That was a large part of our decision to go retail, and it’s paid absolute dividends. I know that my possible life (working full time on BMS) would be absolutely impossible if we’d chosen any other path. I ain’t rich, but I get by working on something I really love and care about. If you want to revile us for wanting that, feel free. Pretty much everything you see today would not have happened without that pivotal decision. It was a divisive one, even among the team, but ultimately the right one without a doubt.
My ST Uncut (I made both, by the way) available on ModDB is in no way comparable to what’s in retail. One is a “modder’s first maps” and another is a professional set of fully realised, fleshed out, detailed and (in my humble opinion) brilliant works. Not only did my abilities improve a ridiculous amount since the mod, the input and work of the team of course makes the biggest difference of all.
And regarding the Source 2013 SDK, it’s actually substantially less fully featured than what’s for offer in retail 2009/TF2. Stripped back in a significant number of ways. That’s why it’s freely available, and 2009/TF2 are only available to licensees. And our hybrid engine is looking more and more attractive by the day, in my opinion…
Good to know. Wonder if Crowbar Collective is also behind the Blue Shift and Opposing Force revamps.
hate those guys
I like how someone disliked your quip Crypt, considering what you have just an inch below it.
I had a pretty good laugh; I should admit that.
Haha, I didn’t expect anyone to catch it. Half of my dislikes come from Reddie, he’s got it out for me. ^~^ It’s okay, I still love him.
Mea maxima culpa, browser does not show signatures in verticle (nexus7), order has been restored to the force.
This whole thread is retarded.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
