So did anyone actually manage to sneak past the tentacle without taking a hit?

For whatever reason my security guard backed right where the tentacle couldn’t reach him and managed to survive the whole time leaving me out of harm’s way. I think I got lucky.

The trick is speed. Don’t try to sneak, just run and throw grenades away from where you’re going.

I didn’t get hit even once, but I played at easy maybe that’s why…

Had no problems with the tentacle, never got touched. Made sure I stayed crouched the whole time and whenever they started migrating my way I tossed a nade to another level.

Your best bet is to throw a grenade at the door you want to go to, that will break the wooden sealings, and then throw one at the tentacle, and it will switch levels, so you can run to the door. At least this is how I got past this part.

They were definitely more troublesome than their original counterparts, which came as a nasty surprise to me. However, after I figured out they were much more stubborn, it was fairly easy.

I figured that they gave us satchels for a reason, so I used those a lot. I’d dump them in random places where I knew that I would avoid, then when it came time to backtrack up the ladders again, I strategically detonated them when I got to certain places.

Honestly it works FAR better the more explosions you use to distract the tentacles.

so much this

In half life you have to crawl as slowly as possible and throw nades to the other side of the room if the tentacle so much as tickles your nipples, you’re dead. In black mesa it’s the total opposite… fuck the grenades and the crouching, just run as fast as you can and it won’t do any damage, even if you do get hit it will take away like 3hp… Although I suspect this will be fixed soon though.

Going down, I’ve always had problems…until the last time, when I worked out the way it reacts to grenades. Going up, I can usually sprint right past it. Not sure how that works though.

I made it through mostly unscathed, except for two hits on the last run to the control room. I just threw a grenade at the tentacle, and ran like crazy. I was on easy, so that might have helped.
