I’ve started adding weapons and other such goodies, I’d still like to add more architecture but I am not sure what else to add. I will be going to France soon, so work will hault for a while, but once I am back I will release a beta version so I can get more detailed feedback.
I’m beginning to really like your little details thrown in. One thing I would strongly suggest is, try chopping off the corners of columns and corners here and there. They’re very sharp, and it would make it look miles better. Also; it’s easy to tell you copy and pasted the more repetitive details through your textures. Go through the details (columns, beams) and just shift the textures around so it’s less obvious.
Did a little bit of rounding and was about to start on changing the repetitive details when my computer got messed up really bad and now Hammer Bluescreens.

All the terrain in the background is in its very basic shape, I will be working on it a lot more once I get Hammer working again. What do you all think about the drawbridge contraption? Good bad, needs more work?

Will there be falling snow?
Probably not, but I saw a map on filefront with a really nice falling snow effect, so maybe I will ask the author to use his snow.
The map is pretty much finished for now, but I don’t want to post a dl yet because there is a bad glitch that causes it to crash every once in a while, so I can’t post a link until I fix that.

use a brush with a trigger texture set to func_precipitation with snowfall.

Thanks, I looked at a tut for func_precipitation and it only mentioned snow and rain so I never even noticed snowfall.

Has snowfall, but it needs to be made a lot more dense.

Apparently you can just copy and paste more triggers into the same place. I came across that when I had it in my head that I should learn Hammer, kind of have a basic understanding now but I need to wait for school to get out to learn more…
Will you release this as a playable map, or is more of a fun thing?
Judging from his previous releases and weapon spawns, I would have to say that it will be released.
What you really need to learn Hammer is time, and lots and lots of it. Also, don’t be discouraged if your first few maps are epic fails. I bet Ram’s first map sucked.
Definitely the former. If you have Dm you can play it. I probably won’t release it for about a month because I am going to France with my family in a few days and I don’t have a laptop.

I changed the light_environment to the “ideal values” from valve dev community and I’ve been hard at work changing small architecture to “func_detail” to stop the engine from crashing. This is just about the final product, but I still have one or two more things to work out when I get back from France, so this will be the last update for about a month.
wow, man, looks really good! This would be a fucking awesome ‘defend’ type of map. Zombie panic level, anyone?
Sure, when I get back I will see if I can dl ZP and figure out how to make it a defend map.
