Mattemuse believes that mayans are predicting good karma on the gaia of natureness?
that is funny to me.

GJ skipping over the fact that you believe ancient cultures could predict the future.
GJ denying that they tried
Tried =/= Suceeded
Also, when did I ever deny that they did try it?
GJ makin’ shit up.
did you sit on something poisonous the other day matt?
because you seem to have been starting plenty of pointless fights lately.
it uses the historical record of their predictions as a foundation. that’s where you denied they tried it.
Also Rottfodder I’ve noticed recently that my posts seem to attract your bitching like a mosquito buzzing around that won’t seem to leave you alone no matter how much you swat at it. Please, cease your buzzing and use the forum’s ignore functionality if opinions bother you so much.
EDIT - actually, never mind, I have a better idea
Your waspish response only furthers my point. Grab a cup of tea and relax, man.
EDIT: I am assuming that edit means you have ignored me so that you do not have to suffer any other acusations against your great ego(even though my “buzzing” constituted two comments).
I win.
It was pretty obvious that I meant you assumed they predicted anything correctly. I assume you were just looking for irrelevant points to bitch about?
Settle down, children.
The Mayans predicted the start of a new cycle of creation, or some shit like that, and some people misinterpret it to mean the end of the world, resulting in idiocy around the world.
Discussion over.
Who cares. The Mayans are a dead race. WHY DIDN’T THEY PREDICT THAT HMMMM?
bscly
I can predict that frogs will become spaceships in two hours. Considering that I’ve based that on nothing, it doesn’t really matter whether people think I’ve predicted a new cycle of creation or the end of the world.
If you based it on correct predictions of astronomical events made thousands of years in advance without the benefit of the telescope, not only would it become an accurate analogy, but also people might find your theory interesting in the same way they find Mayan prophecy interesting. Of course some would disagree that any transmogriphication would occur, but they might agree that it was an interesting date and something was likely to happen.
Mayan prophecy is based on precession - cycles of the earth’s axial tilt (think of the “wobble” of a spinning top). Mayans accurately predicted the earth’s tilt would bring the sun’s path through the rift in the milky way, something that happens once every 3,000 years or so. They believed this was a significant event - whether you do or not, or why you think it is or isn’t, is not relevant. It’s a fact that they predicted it, and it’s going to happen, regardless of interpretations of its significance.
Could you link me to some sort of article about that, mattemuse? Sounds interesting.
here’s the skeptical view of it, which is still quite interesting https://www.astro.uu.nl/~strous/AA/en/2012.html
:fffuuu:
They’re trolling us, no doubt about that.
What do you think will happen then, mattemuse?
I’d also like to say: where’s the evidence that it’s about the prediction of astronomical events?
I don’t have ESP or some shit, how do I know what’s going to happen? I’ve read about the Mayan prophecy (one of their gods is going to return) and I’ve read about all the other shit that’s predicted to go down in 2012 (precession, earth’s magnetic poles shifting, fusion experiments, peak solar storm activity, whatever else) and I’d say on balance that the odds of something significant happening before 2013 are far greater than the odds of nothing happening.
the evidence that what’s about the prediction of astronomical events?
The evidence that the calendar is based on the prediction of astronomical events.
Why is something going to happen just because we’ve moving through the milky way?
