Resonance Cascade Effects

well if we’re talking about gman appearances, you gotta put the happy gman from garrysmod flying around somewhere during the cascade…

Not really though.

Gman should be standing in the room where the two scientists talk for like 5 minutes before letting you into the test chamber (meaning you’ll see him if you go over there and look through the glass) he straightens his tie, brushes off his suit, and walks towards the back of the room, at which point you teleport away

(He would like… walk into view right when you kick the sample into the beam and his animations would be timed so that he finishes before you teleport… at least that’s how I see it)

Good save. That idea is definitely the opposite of what is good.

They won’t add (afaik) any gman appearances

^ You can’t know that. As far as I can remember, the devs have said virtually nothing about the G-Man and his appearances. There were several suggestions before the crash about updating the G-Man’s appearances to take advantage of different media such as CCTV cameras or televisions a la HL2, which were received very well by the community from what I can remember.

Since these technologies weren’t available to HL when it was made, there’s no reason to think that they wouldn’t encoporate them and make variations of existing appearances, or even to make new ones.

HL is a far longer game that HL2, and yet I swear HL2 had far more G-Man appearances.

I retract my statement; I thought I had read something about it in the FAQ.

the resonance cascade should distort space like in some games i’ve seen, kind of like refraction in a bubble - i think Metroid Prime did it when you charge up the lazer. Portal does it really subtly when you shoot a surface that is impervious to portals. I mean thats pretty much what the resonance cascade does, distort/tear space, really its a no-brainer.

You are mistaken.

You gotta point. It’b be cool if it flashes for like, 1 frame that you can very easily miss…

HL2 did have more, HL had 1 each in about 8 chapters( i may have missed 1 or 2, i counted by memory) whereas HL2 had 2 or even 3 in a about half the chapters( but i could be way off as I personnly prefer to play HL1 over HL2 so i’m not entirely familiar with G-man sighting in HL2  )

That just my point, not “OMG BMS GLOVE IS NOT LIEK HL1 GLAVE!!! CHANGE IT!!!”

Back on topic.

Feeling that this thread is getting a little old I just want to say… keep it simple stupid. I feel that this part of the mod needs no change at all and that the original was already good enough, so good that the devs will make it even better then before.

The G-Man was supposed to appear rarely and not all the time, and certainly not very clearly during the resonance cascade. An additional appearance before the test chamber -might- be appropriate, but at that point in the game it really doesn’t seem necessary at all. The whole idea of the G-Man in HL1 is that he would appear in completely unreachable places where the player doesn’t expect it. He doesn’t start fucking with the laws of physics and entering your mind until much later on.

G-Man appearances need to be done rarely, but effectively.
