PS3 vs. Xbox 360

idk about you but my 500GB ps3 allows for 125 HD blueray rips (more because some of the tv shows I watch are only available in SD) also network streaming from my computer connected to RSS torrent downloading means that I can watch my tv shows the next day on my ps3. Also I use an external hardrive to store some of the movies so I can bring them over to friends house and play it on their ps3 (in full HD).

I have a ps3 and an xbox360. Every time I turn on the 360 and hear the sounds the system makes and I am reminded how much more I like the ps3.

Sure the 360 is fun once in a while but I find that I go for long periods of time without even turning my 360 while my ps3 gets turned on almost every day.

And yes I only have 4 games for the ps3 and 8~9 360 games, but total game play time is at least quadruple on my ps3. <3 LBP and WipEout HD/Fury

Do you own any other previous gen PlayStation games?

[COLOR=‘Red’]EDIT: My bad, I forgot we are talking about gaming consoles. If it’s about gaming then I do believe Xbox wins in that department. You know how hard it is to develop for the PS3? That’s the reason for the lack of games.

[COLOR=‘Red’]EDIT #2: For those asshats that want to go and say “loloLOlol PS3 onlIEN is Fre3”, lemme give you a snippet about the online support that’s not only from my experience, but many others.

Playstation Network has the sole advantage of being free for the most part (game makers are still allowed to charge for online play if they want, such as MMO games, etc). However, to play any game at all on XBOX Live, you must subscribe at $50 per year at its cheapest.

One drastic disadvantage of the Playstation 3 is the fact that you cannot send messages to your friend from within a game; in order to reach the XMB or ‘main menu’ of the PS3, you need to quit out of the game you are playing, and go to your friends list that way. There is nothing in the way of voice chat (with the exception of Warhawk), and no cross-game invite system. With XBOX Live, hit one button and you can reach your friends right away. Send them a voice message, or text message, or invite them to the server you’re playing on. You can even add your MSN/Live Messenger
list to the 360, and talk to your non-gaming friends any time you want.

Profiles are also more robust on XBOX Live – each gamer has their own tag, their own custom avatar, a list of games they recently played, some achievements they have accomplished, and an overall score to give an idea of how experienced you are. All of this can be viewed in-game. Also, XBOX Live extends to XBOX.com, where you can view and edit profiles from your PC if you prefer.

On PSN, you get an icon, and a small about-me section. None of this can be viewed in-game, and there is no way to tell anything else about the gamer. PSN does not extend to an online version that can be viewed from the PC, either.

Another issue is the fact that there are fewer people buying Playstation 3 games. Not only is the console being outsold by quite a significant margin by the XBOX 360 (4.62 million compared to 2.56 million in 2008 alone, and 9.15 million compared to 3.25 million in the lifetime of the consoles), it also sells less games per console. That means that you will find many more online games of Call of Duty 4, for instance, on the XBOX 360. Also, even your multi-console friends will probably choose to play online games on the 360, because of everything I mentioned here.

tl;dr on [COLOR=‘Red’]EDIT #2: Xbox is superior in connectivity and easier interface.

You keep coming with this the PS3 has close to no games argument, even though you know it’s bullshit. I think you forgot that I mentioned that the PS3 actually had MORE exclusive games than the 360 last year. The no games argument died out about a year after the PS3 came out at best.

So you think a media center, a bluray player and an XBOX is smarter than having em all in one? Saving space, having a lot less wires, spending less effort to constantly switch between the 3 and saving money? (And also not having to deal with a certain electronic device that is notorious for breaking down a lot) Yeah great argument. I mean it’s logical for anyone to want that.

And why would you want Bluray discs to be compatible with DVD players? Well of course they don’t. But the PS3 plays DVD’s aswell so why would you even need one when you have a PS3?

Alright, let’s deviate from the NO GAEMS argument and read above at how online is much better with Xbox. And I won’t detract on how the BluRay is a nice perk for the PS3. It’s just silly that you have to pay a little extra to enjoy that HD goodness for you and you only. BluRays are not the standard. Everyone owns DVD players and DVDs.

[COLOR=‘Red’]OH: And even though you gotta chip in a little extra, Xbox is coming out with a lot of products to help develop its “sensing motion” capabilities like Kinect. Just thought I’d throw that in.

[COLOR=‘Red’]FUCKING EDIT: Wanna see the Xbox’s new sleek design? I think you PS3fags would like it. Read it up too.

lol

I own both, i enjoy both and prefer none over the other because I’m a real gamer.

PS: PC is still my favorite system.

Oh wow, they coppied the PS3 except for the bluray and called it an XBOX slim. How nice. They finaly did what they should have done when the piece of crap first came out.

Also, Kinect won’t work. It doesn’t have any buttons. There’s nothing physical, and you simply need something you can touch.

And allright, I’ll give you that the PS3 has an inferior networking system.

But still, this by far isn’t enough to match the shortcommings of the XBOX.

What !?
The whole idea about Kinect is that you only use your body! Like, for example, eyetoy!

EDIT: it is only the design that looks a little bit like ps3, they have very different hardware!

As for HD gaming, when i play on my Xbox, it plays in 1080p by default.

@Daedalus

Oh yes, it’s definitely copying the PS3. It’s just improving the design so it’ll have better marketing values for faggots like you who buy things because they look pretty.

Kinect does work actually. It will use similar technology to the Wii Webcam. This just makes the Xbox an altogether better product because it’s extending itself out to casual gamers WHILE staying true to hardcore gamers.

I’d also like to hear about these shortcomings of the Xbox.

Yes, but some people are not as rich as you and must make the choice between buying one.

The Xbox 360 Slim has a tendency to shred disks. I have a friend who was at E3 and he said that on multiple occasions the slims that were on display would emit this loud scratching grinding noise followed by a error message. Also the PS3 has had built in WiFi for quite some time now while Xbox is only just getting it. As for motion controls, I can’t see either the Move or Kinect really being popular. Everyone I know and pretty much everyone in the world who plays consoles likes to relax on their couch with a controller. If I had to pick I would go for I would pick the move simply because it can be used in fps games, not because its for Playstation, while I dont really see how the Kinect could be used in fps games if their is no physical item to hold.

@Jerry: Im pretty sure ur Xbox doesnt do 1080p for most games because I know for a fact that Halo 3 and ODST run at 640p (Upscaled to 720p), both COD4 and COD6 run 600p (Upscaled to 720p, but can be forced to 1080p with noticeable slowdowns and visual defects, and Gears of War 2 runs at 720p. Just because ur tv is 1080p and the Xbox menu runs at 1080p doesnt mean ur games will.

Alright, PS3 has had WiFi for a while. They did, after all, hold it back for a year from release with Wii and Xbox.

See above your post about Kinect. They are doing it to connect with casuals. This little toy should probably suck a few Wii lovers away.

My parents own a PS3 that we got for free a long time ago, besides watching blu-ray movies I never use it (don’t own any games for it) because I have a decent custom built computer.

I’ve never used an Xbox but seeing as you have to pay a monthly fee to go online I think the PS3 has the edge as it’s just so much cheaper not to mention the blu-ray which I think is a big advantage (they are expensive for computers).

oh, my sony tv(ironic :stuck_out_tongue: ) says that it is running in 1080p, but sony fail at everything…

nah, just kidding, it is probably the xbox that is upscaling it. ^^

Im not the kind of Ps3 fan who goes out of his way to tell Xbox fans that his Ps3 is soo much better in every single way, such as heatbomb. I agree the Xbox Live is better than Playstation Network, I didnt want to pay for the premium service so I went for the Playstation. Also I hate people who claim the Xbox games suck cuz they dont. Halo 3 and Gears of War are loads of fun. That said Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 (soon to be 3) can give the Xbox a run for its money.

You’d think so, but you’d be wrong. Lemme get things straight with Xbox Live.

And I’m not bashing the PS3… much. This is a versus thread and I’m giving information that could essentially help someone make the decision on purchasing a console. I believe the Xbox has “more bang for your buck” if you’re looking for gaming (for both casuals and hardcores, media viewing, user-friendliness, and a fulfilling online experience.

Xbox is just as much, if not, more a home entertainment center than the PS3. What it boils down to is what you are looking for in a console. I find that Xbox caters to the majority of mine and many others’ needs. Also, Microsoft has been nothing, but nice to me since I got the “[COLOR=‘Red’]Red Ring Of Death” after having the 360 for 3 years. Sent me a new one, free of charge even though I had surpassed my warranty.

—Personal stuffs—
Yes, I have a few ps1 games that I have converted and made playable on my psp also I have a few ps2 I think I have another 6 or 7 more that are not pictured. But that is not a problem for me.

—Fact stuffs—
The problem with development on the ps3 is the number of processor cores. This requires developers to make their games to be evenly threaded. Two things about this; 1st is that all of the good games on the 360 are threaded because the 360, in fact, has 3 cores. (PowerPC) 2nd is that multi threaded is the new the direction that most new technology is going. I’m going to wager a guess that in your computer right now is a processor that has at least 2 cores, maybe even 4. Also the new nVidia Fermi technology (although still in its infancy, is all about co processing)

Also your knowledge about the ps3 networking is a bit dated. It is possible for players to send messages and chat in the XMB while in game, this was added more than several firmware updates ago. Also online you have your own graphic avatar. Upon selecting a user you can view all games that they have played and there trophies, and compare their trophy collection to your on a game by game basis. Also you can update your information from the playstation network website

In regard to the number of people owning the ps3 vs. the 360, the most recent figure for worldwide hardware totals according to VGC is 27.3% 360 and 24%ps3

— End fact stuffs —

I’m trying to be as fair and factual as possible. From what I have gathered from your post is that most of your knowledge comes from the original bickering that took place at E3 2006. I suggest before attacking someone/thing you first become knowledgeable of your adversary and not rely on facts/rumors that were created over 4 years ago.

I want that Daft Punk logo.

So Android, I just thought I’d inform you that the Xbox 360 has 751 games, the PS3 has 607, so please don’t use that “it has no games lol” argument, it’s retarded. And even though there are less people using PSN than Xbox Live, it doesn’t mean that you’re going to run out of people to play against, so that argument doesn’t really apply anyway. The only advantage the Xbox has is those in-game Live features that you mentioned.
Also, what the fuck is up your hate for PS3 users?

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Also @eternalness that logo is made from laser cut stainless steel, the red you see in the logo are painted internal components.
