Of all the things you could have said in response to this thread you had to complain about the image host.
I love the zone around Pripyat and Chernobyl. It’s so beautiful and peaceful, despite what happened there. I’d love to one day go there myself.
fascinating…
It depends what you want from an image host. I use Flickr because it’s a good mix of image hosting and social media for photographers, and I have yet to see anything done particularly badly. If I wanted pure hosting I have a website for that.
A lot of the strange creatures are fictional. The area has become a huge nature reserve though since most of the population moved out. Wild boar, wolves, horses, and bears all call the area home and non have shown significant reactions to the radiation to the best of my knowledge.
It’s also a one of a kind location, so scientists are learning all the time about how it will effect animals, nature and so on. We are constantly discovering new insect species around the world so it stands to reason that we would find new species of insect in the zone where they are actively being sought out on a daily basis.
Thanks for the comments everyone, given the opportunity it’s absolutely worth a visit.
Thanks a lot for posting these pictures, they are great and I’d never heard about the firefighter’s clothes bit. Chernobyl/Pripyat have always interested me, especially after the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, they are actually where I took the name “Bandit” from, haha. Were you able to see the Duga 3 at all while you were there? I hope I get a chance to go visit the area before it’s fully closed off. Something about urban decay has a unique beauty to it.
That’s “Godzilla” from 1998 you are talking about, haha
No, sadly we didn’t have time for Duga 3, and I’ve heard it’s to be demo’d for scrap
Amazing shots! Thank you.
Great pictures, very nicely done. I read an article recently saying that Chernobyl and the area around it has essentially become an enormous wildlife sanctuary, since all creatures are affected by radiation but have a significantly shorter lifespan that humans so that it doesn’t affect them. Apparently it’s home to a particularly rare species of frog, though I’m sure other rare animals thrive there too.
Like everyone else, I’d love to go, just because it’s strangely haunting and comforting, both to see the remnants of an entire city frozen in time, but also to know that as soon as we go, nature reclaims everything.
The shots with the dolls and bears is disturbing and sad at the same time; they haven’t been touched for decades.
I would realy love to go there, too.
The picture of the Pool is the scene in CoD4 with the sniper, didnt knew they made it so realistic.
Verry good photos, thank you for sharing.
