All three entries are a good example of Freudian symbolism at work.
This. A lot.
Ignoring the rest of your post, this part doesn’t make much sense. Why have so many knives if you prefer function? Surely if it’s only function you’re looking for, you’d only have three or four.
“A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity”. Sigmund Freud
For the one mentioning something about Freud…
Now, I’m still trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with me collecting knives and how that makes America a big, bad place. I assume it is because I obviously go around stabbing people all the time. I mean, I cannot possibly have any valid reasons for owning that many knives if I don’t intend to just kill, kill, kill, right?
When I first started getting knives, I wanted functional knives which would allow me to do whatever I’d need a knife for. I liked the basic knives that I got, but after learning more about the steels used, the grinds, the locking mechanisms, the profile, the handles, I decided to get different knives. Now, some of the knives I purchased later on are certainly prettier, like the Spykers, which have silver carbon fibre inlays, or the Harpy with a solid carbon fibre handle, or the Volpe(s), with stainless steel handles and Olivewood inserts. However, above all, they are all still functional knives, and still serve their primary function very well. I do like to change out what I carry every few days, so most of those knives have rotated through my pockets before.
I started adding collectible knives later on. The pink knives I’ve purchased to give away as gifts or resell later, as they are produced in limited numbers. The Spykers are out of the 3000 ever produced, and have gone up in value since I purchased them. Some of the knives I own have more than doubled in value, a few have even tripled.
I’ve used a number of cheaper and even more expensive knives from other companies. Many knives are simply not designed well in my opinion. Handling on the knife is not that great, the grind is horrible, and things of that nature can make a knife difficult or annoying to use. This is rarely an issue for Spyderco knives.
Now, why I carry 4 on me. I carry three in my pockets, plus a tiny one on a chain around my neck (which is rarely used). One knife is kept unused so the blade is always ready, which has been my custom since witnessing an accident where a car went into water and a seat belt trapped someone. The other two knives get used for anything I might need a knife for, just with two different styles of blades. A hawkbill can be great for pull cuts, while a more traditional blade might be better for general tasks. I use a knife around the house or at work at least a dozen times a day, not including food prep. Maybe you like going to search for scissors or an exacto knife, I just reach into a pocket and pull out the appropriate knife…
tl;dr: Knives are useful tools, I use em every day, and I see nothing whatsoever wrong with owning, carrying, or using man’s oldest tool.
Disagree with me? That’s fine - you’re entitled to your opinion, same as I’m entitled to mine. I’ll stop derailing the thread, and will instead pimp other, more politically correct things in the future.
like stabbing people
You could just use a pen knife and not be a psycho.
Malice your collection is awesome. These haters are just stupid. How does a knife and firearm collection make America look bad? How is it psycho?
I wish I had some of those lenses too.
Having a massive collection of things intended for killing isn’t psycho?
Because they can be used to kill doesn’t make killing their sole purpose.
Knives have many practical uses. Firearms have many recreational uses. Target shooting up in the mountains is quite enjoyable and involves no killing.
I’ll bet you have at least 6 or 8 kitchen knives at your house. How many people have you killed with them?
You are one of those sheeple who are brainwashed to think a pocket knife is only useful to hurt or kill someone. Just because some psycho can kill you with something does not mean that is its intended use. Someone can kill you with a glass bottle, hammer, scissors, or a brick; is someone with a couple of those laying around a psycho too? Knives have perfectly legitimate uses, maybe you’re too blind or brainwashed to see that, but they ARE useful tools.
So… whats your legitimate use for 50 knives? you dont have 50 hands now do you, I bet you dont use them to cut up a fucking steak
Some people collect things, ever heard of it?
Kitchen knives, penknives = tools.
Unless you go hunting recreationally (which is still a kind of asshole thing to do), pocket knives are completely unnecessary.
Also, hurf a durf, you just said I probably had kitchen knives so I obviously do see that knives have a use.
I fail to see why people are getting so butthurt over this.
Wish I had a camera so I could take a picture of my firearms. Maybe you could be butthurt over the fact that I have 4 shotguns and 6 .22’s.
Any handy man or construction worker will tell you that statement is utter bullshit. Stop being such a snob and get over it already.
I was under the impression those people had toolboxes or utility belts.
And pocket knives. They come in very handy for a variety of needs.
True… The bottle opener can be quite handy for when the need of beer is high…
Though I generally use any hard surface with a straight corner to open my bottles… And I hear the Americans have this weird screw-cap-thingy-for-10-year-olds.
We have belts made of baby elephant skin with bottle-openers on them made of ivory and Indian tears.
I don’t know why, but all my kitchen knives are shaped liek this:
My parents think its normal.
