I’m pretty sure a locked door is the easiest and most sensible solution here, and has probably been used already.

If a player wants to go back and kill someone vital, then so be it, let him ruin his game for himself, what is it to you?

just make it so that if you indeed kill the scientist they will never appear later in the game. and you can’t finish the game. would be a nice punishment for morons.

The paradox being discussed is to do with characters that appear in later games (HL2, and following episodes). If you kill Eli, how come you still see him in HL2…sorta deal. Not a later in the game paradox.
