True, but unless you’re applying for a job at McDonalds you atleast expect to get reviewed properly. Otherwise it would be like ‘derp de herp he has too many pages hes probably a horrible model and texture artist what a complete naab, NEXT PLEASE’
You really have no idea, do you?
Enlighten me with your infinite wisdom.
Why would anyone at HR or even someone directly involved with the job look further if his first impression is “wtf is this and what do I do?”. It’s your job to impress them straight away, it’s your job to pop out, it’s your job to invite them to look further.
Hardly anyone will have the time or interest in digging through a pile of needles in order to find the golden straw.
If you truly believe that a company will carefully read every application they get -plus- actively check the portfolio in detail, then you’re going to be disappointed immensely when you’re going to look for a job.
Can’t find the reference right now, but I have a book somewhere that states that you have 6 seconds to persuade someone to check the rest of your portfolio out.
I already have one, I don’t know much about webdesign but I don’t rate ones skill by simply looking at his/her portfolios frontpage for a few seconds and determining whether or not he/she has what it takes. Especially when the person involved is applying for something that has absolutely nothing to do with webdesign.
Yes, but I’m specifically talking about (web)design and art. Why would someone at a company think that the candidate is any good at (web)design or art if the first thing you see is an ugly, badly made portfolio with no eye for detail or perfection?
I was looking at the broader picture, if you are applying as a webdesigner then yes you are correct.
