Multiplayer Player Models

MOTHERFUCKER
way to shit at people without the courtesy to follow it up with TP

I feel like starting a campaign to get Black Mesa banned in Germany and Australia, just to necessitate a censored soldier model. You think the gov won’t do it? You know how little encouragement they need…

Do that fucking robot yourself. We censor censored content in BM.

I ain’t customizing shit, there’s no point if it won’t be visible on other peoples’ systems. An integral character from all of HLDM’s history should be packaged by default. It’s, like, the only model that wouldn’t look out of place through a straight port.

Release the player skeleton and make a community project if you’re too concerned about time constraints to go about fulfilling Half-Life’s past.

They don’t owe you a god damned thing.

Exactly.

Achievement earned:

say it how it is 1/3000 (theres about 3000 members on this forum)

I’m fairly sure BM is using the Valve Skeleton, guys.
Someone with the ability to, make the mesh and textures, then when it’s released, you can decompile a BM model, take the animations, and you’re done. Mass distrubite it, before anyone else makes one.

Distribution, ah right, the easiest part for an independent source trying to match the distribution of BM.

If it were included with BM at release, and contained a little batch file that just said “Double-click to enable Robo”, at least 80% of players wouldn’t notice. You think a custom player model would saturate any better by not being included in the mod’s download?

This is the first step to the team ditching co-op altogether, you see. It’s a slippery slope. Not only would Zombie be out of place in it, but Robo would not even be an option. (Of all the player models that make sense, a robot helping Freeman makes more sense than half the models available.)

Wow, you bitch a lot Tiki.

Are you trying to get permanently banned? Cause your doing a good job so far. Your pushing the developer’s buttons with every post you submit that has you whining about Robo not being in.

Here are some basic facts:
1) You cant really see your multiplayer model/skin when you play in multiplayer, since the game is in first person. The only time you will get to see your own body is when you die, respawn and walk to the position you got killed(even then your dead body will disappear). This is a really small detail that your making a fuss about and it doesnt even effect gameplay (only your personal opinion of gameplay).

2)Its hard to find a mod development team that are really talented and skilled, and that make things like artificial computer models look like reality

3)Its hard to find a mod development team that are crazy enough to take on the project of recreating Half Life

4)Its hard to find a mod development team that are really talented and skilled AND the mod still not being dead

5)Its hard to find a mod development team that are really talented and skilled AND making something completely free

And yet still here you are, pissing off the devs about whining and bitching about something as small and insignificant like a freaking model/skin for multiplayer. If i was a dev and if i read your comments, i would try and strike up a deal with Valve so that we can turn the mod into a commercial game. Cause seriously, im not a dev and these two/three comments you replied drove me pissed off and insane to commit such extreme actions.

I personally agree with Tiki, The Robot model is a big part of this remake for me.

I had previously taken it as red that it would be included and hearing that it wont be has removed some of my ability to recreate my nostalgic experience of my first steps in to on-line gaming.

Though this news has sadden me it wont stop me from enjoying the mod once its released, but i can’t help feeling that part of Half life’s Heritage has been lost.

It’s a hunk of digital metal that has absolutely no place in the mod. Including a model that was never used in any other versions of the original single player game other than one in a remake with NO SUCH RESTRICTIONS is a waste of resources. Why spend the time to model, code, animate, bug-test, and deliver a model that MORE THAN TWO THIRDS OF THE COMMUNITY EITHER WON’T USE OR DON’T CARE ABOUT? That makes as much sense as putting a rocket launcher on a nuke. It looks cool, but it doesn’t really contribute much, if anything at all.

All in all, if the model is only used in multiplayer (why would it be in SP? There’s no place for it), and if only half the people playing Black Mesa actually play the multiplayer, and only half of them care about the Robo model, and only half of THEM actually USE said model, and only half of THOSE PEOPLE will only EVER use the Robo model, and not anything else…then only 1/16 of the playerbase is getting any marginal benefit out of the model, and that’s not enough to warrent its inclusion. It would be a wast of time, energy, space, and resources when there are other things that need doing first, that are more important.

In short…It’s a digital hung of iron. In a video game. That you are getting for free. Fighting so hard for something as unimportant as “Oh, my favorite model isn’t there…I’m not going to download a WHOLE FREE GAME THAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR FOR 5 OR 6 YEARS because my favorite model isn’t there.” is absolute idiocy. There are more important things to do for the mod than listen to whining about why a trivial quarter of a fraction of a game is not being represented.

Hey, I bitch a lot too. :frowning:
(but i’ve gotten my way a few times, so i’m content.)

Actually, I’m going to suggest that no effort be wasted on converting Zombie to a player model. It’s the most ridiculous one, always has been. To go about putting Zombie’s mesh to a player’s bones would be a waste of time, for almost no increased multiplayer experience.

(Fingers, really? Do we really want to talk about fingers? :stuck_out_tongue: )

I can understand not wanting to remake the entirety of Robo all pretty-like, how Black Mesa requires. It’s time; it’s effort; it’s a distraction. I just figured the coincidence of me naming him right before you deny him would make an awesome excuse to bitch.

If this reasoning is too hard for you to grasp, just imagine I have a secret agenda:
Robo wants company. If Zombie & Robo are both excluded from the initial release, players will be just slightly more inclined to go find the BMDM booster-pack. Excluding just one player model is a slap on the balls to everyone who appreciated it, but excluding two is an understandable gesture for timeliness.

And you know what? As a BMDM booster-pack is created, it could open opportunities for other classic models that not enough time permitted for. If there isn’t a female-assassin player model (since she was only added in by Gearbox), she could join the scene then too. Someone may even be tempted to add a Source-engine counterpart to our old friend Hgrunt, who ended up not resembling his in-game namesake.

That happens a lot.
How am I supposed to empathize with a human player-model?!

Only if they have profoundly bad taste.

I have a Nehru jacket in my closet. By comparison a chemical-hood with short-sleeves would be dashing.

for me this mod is getting more and more unlikeable…
not because of their task (to bring half-life 1 to a new engine)…
but to not care about the community.
I always thought this is a project by the community for the community… but that does not seem to be true. the half-life community is the half-life community for a reason…
–> because they like the gameplay and the layout/style of the game.
it seems that you (the developers) try to make a completely new game that hasn’t to do that much with half-life anymore… half-life was about fast, unrealistic gameplay and brutal style it also was very competitive, hard to master but easy to learn (multiplayer mode)…
and single player mode was about a very intense, uncanny but sometimes humorous athmosphere… also rather fast paced gameplay. it was one of THE games in the aspect of speedrunning. why do you try to destroy all these aspects of the good old game?
just because black mesa will be new and shiny? sure… it would be more work to implement half-life 1 movement physics but it would be worth it, because it was fun (AND PART OF THE GAME).
… just to make clear what i mean…

the official trailer it says “we will release in late 2009…” Then you don’t hold your promise and don’t even give a real statement.

"WHEN WILL BLACK MESA BE RELEASED?

We have always gone for a “when it’s done” approach." <-- not true. why do you lie to us?

everytime i visit the forums i only see so many kids trolling around… posting unserious/stupid ideas which don’t have to do anything with half-life…
there are so many threads about changing weapon features… i mean… WTF?
the game should stay the same. half-life is the most thought out game ever… it’s not without a reason, that half-life is the most influencing and popular game in schooter-genre.

i love half-life 1 over all and the robo model was an official part of the multiplayer mode… so for me it’s a must. it’s like… remaking a game but removing all of it’s spirit/style… why remake a game when it won’t be the same anymore?
now don’t tell me that i should develop a perfect mod by my self… i don’t have the skills, but if it was influencing the result of this development i would even donate huge amounts of money…

I hope this mod won’t end like Modern Warfare 2, Counter-Strike Source or Half-Life 2 Deathmatch… I hope this mod will not play so damn random like all of todays game titles… but it sadly seems to be a bad trend…

good luck with your development… seems i have to wait for a custom robo model then… :frowning:

PS: please don’t bann me for this pov.

They try to remake Half-Life in a more realistic style, so why should Gordon move as fast as in Half-Life? I mean, Half-Life won’t be removed from your computer, so if you want to play with high speed you start Half-Life and if you want to play Half-Life with more realism then you start Black Mesa, I think realism is one of the goals of the dev team they want to bring in. Both games will be available for ever, thank god Black Mesa isn’t an update for Half-Life.

Black Mesa is focusing more on maintaining the story and atmosphere of Half-Life, and slightly changing the feel for the game to better reflect the feel of Half-Life 2. Take a look at the core of the Half-Life series (HL1, HL2, HL2E1, and HL2E3), and the original Half-Life, in terms of style and feel, stands out like a watermelon in an apple tree. Black Mesa’s goal is to take the style and feel of the HL2 series and the story and atmosphere of HL1 and blend them together to make a more cohesive HL game.

I never played HL1 multiplayer, so I don’t care about the multiplayer as much. All I’m asking for is an amazing SP experience, and I’m HOPING that Co-Op makes it in.

If you are unhappy with Black Mesa MP, multiplayer mods are the easiest kinds of mods to make, I’ve heard.

The gameplay of the multiplayer will be different than of the singleplayer part, probably it will be very similar to the gameplay of the original deathmatch, if this is possible with the source engine.

WTF NO ROBO‽

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
