Last Film You Saw

That’s what always bothers me about movie portrayals of modern air combat. What usually happens is that a jet targets a heat source from miles away, launches fast super-sonic missiles and destroys the target without even seeing it. Hell, even Black Mesa is guilty of this. But then again, that doesn’t make for very interesting cinematography.

Raid 2. Puts all action films before it to shame. You wanna see several 45 minute fist/blade fights with groovy camera work, you need to drink a glass of raid

The first Raid was so gruesome (awesome, but gruesome), I am hesitant to watch the second one…

I heard great things about Raid and Raid 2. I guess I need to devote a night to watch both movies.

Damage done to the Jaegers? What do you mean? You think they took too much damage or too little?

As regards the jets, when has Hollywood ever portrayed any weapon or vehicle realistically? :stuck_out_tongue:

Too little. Drove me nuts.

And watch The Way of the Gun. Some if the most realistic use of weaponry and room-clearing tactics in a movie I have seen in most movies. Watch Heat. the gun battle in the street (aside from the accuracy of the police) is very realistic as well. Hell, watch Top Gun for more realistic use of planes. Hollywood gets it right from time to time. I just wish they would do it more often.

The entire movie is based off of the giant mecha/kaiju genre. It’s practically expected that the jets be unrealistic. I mean, it has giant robots punching out giant space lizards, and you expect it to be realistic?

Real jet combat is pretty boring, besides.

I don’t expect perfect realism, but I expect them to give me something I can suspend my disbelief with. They didn’t succeed, they failed. I didn’t enjoy the movie.

If they depicted jet combat realistically, all you’d see would be a random explosion as a missile arrives at Mach 10 from a jet hundreds of miles away.

Of course you’re not going to like Pacific Rim if you want it to be realistic. The movie is basically a shoutout to the old Giant Mecha and Kaiju genres. It’s not unrealistic because they don’t know how fighter jets actually work, it unrealistic because they want it to be.

I didn’t like the movie because they didn’t do enough to make me believe it was really happening, not because it wasn’t realistic. Up isn’t realistic but they made me believe it was happening. Big Trouble In Little China isn’t realistic but they made me believe it was happening. Pacific Rim just failed with the battle scenes for me.

Saw The Winter Soldier.

Really enjoyed this one. The plot was actually quite interesting, and didn’t just feel like framework for comic book movie action.

The Fifth Element. Pretty awesome movie.

Got taken against my will to see Ride Along. It was actually a fairly decent movie, but it had potential to be a lot better. Ice Cube also apparently just likes to say the word ‘bullshit’ because it seems like he works it into every line of dialogue he can.

I watched an MST3K movie, Parts: The Clonus Horror.

The bizarre thing is, this movie has exactly the same plot as The Island, aside from the ending. It’s not based on a book or anything; The Island actually ripped off a really, really bad sci-fi movie with a $270k budget. Apparently, the makers of Clonus sued Dreamworks, and probably would have won if Dreamworks hadn’t settled out of court for, allegedly, a seven figure sum.

Saw RED last night; it’s the most amusing movie I’ve seen in a long time. It takes joy in being ridiculously over-the top and the sound design is exceptional. Overall, it sort of makes me think “Expendables” but with better acting and an actual story. Not that Expendables is below it, though. Gonna watch Aliens some time today, too.

I totally agree about Red. I really don’t get why it was universally panned when some other films get lauded as they do.

I really liked it. It’s not a redefinition of the genre by any means, but then again, it never wanted to be.

It’s a solid movie.

Just finished watching Aliens as well, and it’s just amazing overall.

Amazing Spider-Man 2. It was good. I liked it a lot, though it wasn’t without its flaws. Mainly didn’t like the actor playing Harry, or how they can’t seem to just focus on one villain at a time anymore. But overall entertaining and enjoyable.

Most people waiting until it was on DVD to see it (like I did). But it still made enough money to get a sequel, that nobody who has seen it has liked. That one is being trashed by everyone… (I haven’t seen Red 2 yet).
