Japan Earthquake

I guess all those people who lost their lives helping others during every single disaster we’ve had in the last ten years don’t count for anything, eh?
My sig.

Of course not. No one would ever led reality get in the way of a good point.

You should come to Argentina. You will see you are overestimating the amount of douchebaggery in your country a lot.

wait we were talking about the us as a country and the shit their military/government/etc has done and the shit their foreign policy has caused, and somehow some of you interpreted that as a personal attack at individual us citizens

:expressionless:

My favorite individual US douche-bag is me.

And if I were president, I’d make the world pay for what it’s done to me!!!

The US is made of people. The government is made of people elected from the populace of the US. Its at the very least a natural tangent.

If humor is the language of the soul, you may understand this a bit better than my endless rants.
But it was nice to be insulted by an American once again. Brings back memories…

it wasn’t even a tangent, we were talking about government stuff and then they were all “fu the american populace are not assholes”

Oh, yeah - I see you’re from 'MERICA, where reading comprehension and critical analysis are not only merely suggestions, but largely unknown.

But, God Bless Ya, you didn’t let the lack of reading comprehension stand in the way of the appropriate reactionary glurge.

I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye just from reading it. And I guess I have to submit to that heart-string-tugging logic:

“People died in natural disasters, therefore 'MERICA ain’t got no douchebags.”

(I had to change it to just “People died in natural disasters” because I don’t even think the original statement is true - and probably came straight out of your delusional ass.)

Right - but a lot of Americans are nationalists - if you criticize their country in any way, they take it personally. We like to think that our government exercises the will of the people, and the actions of the government regarding military actions and foreign policy that some people here are criticizing are emphatically supported by about half the population. So, if you criticize those policies or actions, about half of America will take it personally (and likely call you a terrorist).

BTW - American Exceptionalism isn’t just a vague ideological plank used to guide foreign policy - it is embraced by about half of Americans as a personal philosophy that defines America itself. To those people, if you don’t embrace American Exceptionalism, you aren’t a ‘real’ American (and will likely be called a ‘Terrorist’ or accused of ‘Treason’.)

I’m not saying that Winged One or anyone else is one of these people. He may have just misunderstood the criticism or has some other reason for taking it personally.

I wasn’t taking issue with his post. I just thought that the exchange was an interesting misunderstanding, and I had a thought inspired by it and made that comment.

But let’s be clear: No one, including me, is saying that “All Americans are douchebags”, or “Mr. X is an American, therefore Mr. X is a douchebag.”

Ohh yes, American Exceptionalism!!!

Just like Ancient Greek Exceptionalism, Roman Empire Exceptionalism, British Empire Exceptionalism, Ottoman Empire Exceptionalism, attempted German Empire Exceptionalism, Soviet Exceptionalism, Japanese Empire Exceptionalism …

But no, the U.S. are not an empire. They are a Superpower, that’s something completely different …

American culture is a little bit… differrent yes.
But that surely doesn’t mean all americans and USA suck, does it?
A superpower is something really close to a super empire.

i spent like 3 months of last year in the south and it kind of does tbh

You never answered my question.

I answered it pretty fuckin clearly.
