has hoover become a generic term for like all vacuum cleaners everyhwere or does it refer specifcally to the brand where u guys are .=
I’ve never even heard that name associated with vacuums - The only things that are not just plain “vacuums” over here are Henrys and Dysons.

First time I heard of “hoover” being a type of vacuum cleaner was in the movie “Cruel Intentions”, when that guy from “Dawsons Creek”, who was playing a gay dude, said something along the lines of “I only put up with his shit because that guy can suck like a hoover, damn!”
That’s why the word hoover always gives me funny memories of that scene.
