Sounds like a good day.
Now we sit and wait for Websters to run accross the word…
Hey! Here is a small but cool detail.
The final boss teleports Freeman to random places were he have to fight and climb his way up. What if he actually tries to drop Freeman to certain doom like a bottomless pit, spikes or Lava. Then Freeman will hang from somewere and save him self. It could also happen automatically like a cut scene were Freeman save himself the last moment thanks to his crowbar.
There’s not going to be any cutscenes. And that him dropping Freeman into a pit wasn’t in the original.
Wouldn’t work. Half-Life never takes control away from the player unless there is reason to (knocked unconscious, picked up by advisor, trapped in metal pod, etc). And it certainly doesn’t take control from the player for cut-scenes and the like.
The only cutscenes I can invisage in the mod would be a “getting up” animation after the resonance cascade (similar to the one after the advisor attack in ep2) and being dragged along by soldiers in apprehension.
However, I think it would be cool if we could see Freeman get thrown into the trash compactor, rather than have him regain conciousness there.
I would like to hear Marine’s radio chatter still go on after they die.
if they’re buddies are talking in the next room, I’d like to hear it over the dead guy’s radio.
That’s actually not a bad idea, although hopefully the chatter will be made more meaningful instead of “Sir, I, Hear, Something”.
My ROTC C.O. would explode if he got that response.
Seriously, we would have to pick up little head chunks and drag the legs out of the room.
I THINK HE MIGHT HAVE HEARD US
HE MUST HAVE SUPER HEARING
Maybe Humanize the Human Soldiers a little more. Perhaps hear them talking to each other without the radio’s (when idle of course). Talking about something they did, or how they dislike the orders to kill civilians. Or maybe even 2 of them arguing (one who enjoys the killing, and one who disposes it), only to be broken up by the Squad Commander. Also things like hearing them scream in pain when wounded or killed. Things like having them seem really eager and confident early in the game when they have everything under control, but more fatigue and scared later on once they realize they’ve lost.
Another thing, maybe a stronger build up to the introduction of the Assassins? Like hearing a box tumble, looking over, and seeing a pair of bright red eyes staring at you from the darkness, before quickly darting into the darkness, unable to be found.
So you want the grunts to wax poetic about the ethics of killing and the nature of man, and you want the assassins to bumble around clumsily. Sounds about right.
That’s not what I was getting at…
I was thinking more like:
S1 “Why do we have to kill all the civilians?”
S2 “I don’t know, there must be some reason.”
S1 “Well if there is a reason, they’re not tellin’ us.”
S2 “Maybe it’s to keep them from talking.”
S1 “Whatever. This isn’t what I signed up for!”
Being a soldier myself I know what you’re getting at. Even the most well trained soldiers would have trouble with being given orders to kill civilians, especially when they are your fellow countrymen. Even when they kill civilians by accident they are never the same afterwards. It eats at them. However, this is a game dude. I don’t like my enemy to seem more human. I like when the villians are evil, cold hearted, and ruthless.
Grunt 1: This sucks. Why do we have to be part of some damn cover-up? I joined up to help people, not kill them.
Grunt 2: Isn’t this supposed to be a rescue mission?
Grunt 1: Not according to our orders.
Grunt 2: Screw our orders! Let’s get out of here, blow the lid off this operation!
Vort beams in and kills the soldiers
I think it might work. Of course, the devs have probably finished all the sequences and are putting the finishing touches on effects and models by now.
The original sorta covered this already…
“I killed twelve dumbass scientists and not one of them fought back! This sucks!”

“I didn’t sign on for this shit. Monsters, sure, but civilians? Who ordered this operation anyway?”

I think your particular suggested lines are waaaay too redundant.
i would like to see an option to replace the normal lines with the black mesa bloopers from the youtube video :retard: https://www.youtube.com/user/BlackMesaSourceMedia#play/uploads/32/y6gJWv8GjZU
It would certainly fit in with Half-Life’s occasional black humour though.
Suggestion: Headcrab killing and eating cockroaches, adorable kitty-stoned-on-catnip style.
