First off, absolutely pleased with Xen, and certain spoiler free locations were astounding and had (in my opinion) some of the best horror atmosphere that I have seen in any game, possibly ever. Kind of along that vein, I think the HEV suit zombies are actually a great addition, and I have a single suggestion regarding them. I was exploring a certain zone when I heard one of their suits attempt to inform them that they needed to “seek medical attention”, which I thought was an excellent touch, save for the fact that it was very broken and garbled, which makes sense in it’s own right, but I think that they would be even more creepy if the HEV voice was clear of static, and spoke with less frequency. Something about having that message that you are so used to hearing in your own head, suddenly coming quietly from the darkest corner of the room has a level of horror implicit to it, that I think is somewhat undermined when it is clearly malfunctioning. Just my two cents.

Saw the video clip and it looks really good…
They dealt with the healing pool introduction well I think… Just plonk you in a big pool. This way you don’t have to rely on anything else.
It’s hard to know what something is going to be like before you see it. But i am glad that issue was addressed because it was a serious flaw.
Dealing with the short comings of an old game that ran out of time and resources but was still really good is interesting.
I would say from what i have seen they are doing a good job of it.

New A-grunt types, and well vorts are none hostile untill mind controlled on xen.

They’ll also become hostile after you damage them a certain amount. At least the Vorts do.
Stupid question… does anyone have a list of the soundtrack listed as they appear in game? I could have sworn we had it here somewhere :fumbling thru the forum still feeling clumsy:

Looking at “Half Life” reddit, few images of Nihilant are already posted there with textures.
I have some crazy news for the future levels of Xen, the demo contains some code describing a Vortigaunt Village, an

I watched a full walkthrough of the xen Beta and I will probably buy this later on today…
I only have one criticism out of everything I saw…Exploding houndeyes look out of place and bad design. Wether this is a final look and mechanics or not?
I would suggest mod Antlions to be more mosquito like or something like that for the swamp. Exploding houdeyes just don’t fit the environment of the swamp.
Or they could just as easily be swapped for snarks.

People were complaining about the Nihilanths design on reddit so I made this. A lot of leaks are in the beta and I have an absolute ton of really interesting stuff that I know is happening with future Xen levels because of lines of code and assets hidden in the update. I’ll send some of that here soon.

Agreed. I can’t wait for the Nihilanth battle. In general I’m so excited to see what they’ve done with Gonarch, Interloper and Nihilanth!
