I would imagine that the data available to them now far outstrips what they were capable of recovering in the 60s. Hell, even the GPS they used to validate his record wasn’t available until 1994.
Isn’t it like 19 miles vs 14? That’s a pretty big difference.
Edit:
yeah, well if they gain any new insights that’s totally fine although I doubt the benefits outweigh the costs (if all this should lead to new tourism jumps in the future or so, lol). The Jump itself was successful… as for Baumgartner as well as for the Mega Promo Campaign of Red Bull though…
edith: haha, maxey that pic is great^^ so do we have proof now that matter can travel at the speed of light or HELL… EVEN FASTER than light ? Does that mean Timetravel and Teleportation lies ahead ? Science!
You’re being sarcastic, right? :fffuuu:
This question is unnecessary unless you don’t consider yourself beaten with my big sarcasm hammer :retard:
Surely his ass is still burning.
During the jump, did he say: “My visor is fogging up” or “My visor is fucking hot”?
You are spinning statistics so they better fit your opinion.
This mission has clear scientific values:

What achievements this will lead to nobody knows yet. Give it time.
Joe Kittinger’s jump was from 31.3 kilometers, Felix Baumgartner’s from 39 kilometers. You cannot call 7.7 kilometers “only a few kilometers” on this scale. The new record jump was made a from an altitude 25% higher than previous record.
The former.
This jump will be useful for the military/space agencies and some rich crazy adrenaline addicts who would follow his lead. But for the rest of us, it’s just a guy jumping from very, very high.
wait why am I spinning statistics here ? I didn’t represent any statistic, I was merely throwing facts in the pit and my opinion …
Don’t want to sound dull here, but these facts come from the sponsor so I would exercise caution in valuing the scientific fact. It is an achievement, no doubt about that, but the jump was merely personal for Baumgartner to top Kittinger, to gain a few new world records, to prove he can do it and a nice little PR Campaign for his sponsor Red Bull, not for scientific research in the first place…
Like I stated before, if it leads to new insights, improvements etc. even only for the NASA or Military Guys that’s completely fine but I have yet to find any scientific study or paper about that matter (what is ridiculous considering the jump happened only a few days ago).
Just my 2 cents, just sayin’…
Writing a scientific paper takes time.
