I think the reason gun related crimes tend to be higher in the USA then Europe or Australia is because the USA has had citizen access to guns pretty much all through it’s history. This probably isn’t the case in Europe and Australia. Also, remember that the societies and cultures in these places are different. We also have much more crime here in general, and probably a higher number of gangs and what-not.
The other factor is that we have more people. We have 313 million people compared with 63 mil in the UK and 22 mil in Australia. So naturally there would be more potential criminals, and thus more crime.
Kenny, you’re missing the fact that they are working out the ratio per 100,000 people.
For every 100,000 people there are more gun murders in the US than in other countries. I mean, if we include China or India which have stupidly high populations, America will still have the higher gun related murders.
Also, guns were legal in the UK up until the '90s when some guy walked into a school and murdered a class of 6 year olds. After that the population of the UK were happy to have guns restricted.
We didn’t BAWWW about having our liberties taken away. We didn’t talk nonsense about needed to protect ourselves from wild tigers or criminals.
It was accepted that guns are not needed in a modern civilized society.

Good for you, but what the UK considers okay is different from what the USA considers okay. Remember, cultural/societal differences. You don’t have much gun related crimes now, and I have a feeling you didn’t have much gun related crimes before the guy shot up the kids either (correct me if wrong though).
It isn’t like that in the USA, and it’s been shown to not be a problem related to guns, but related to people. It’s a problem that stems from the society. If WE banned guns now, that wouldn’t be considered okay because not only will that punish responsible gun owners who use guns as collector items, hunting tools, or recreational use at a range, but that will leave only the government and criminals owning guns.
And while you may say that the criminals won’t be able to get the guns, let me ask you, do you know how huge the black market in the USA is? Illegal drugs, poached meat, bootleg disks, etc, they have a huge selection of crap there. Adding guns (which are probably on the market now anyway) would be no problem.
Here is basically what I’m getting to: Banning guns here in the USA would not only be a bad choice because of how we’ve had that right with us for so long, but banning guns here is just an ignorant decision to make. Sure, you may think that because guns are banned, crimes related to guns will decline, but the thing is, when people want to kill, they will kill. And when you have a high crime rate to begin with, all the banning of guns will do is take a law abiding citizen’s property away.

Plus, shooting guns is a lot of fun. I’ve been on only a few range trips, but the adrenaline rush is amazing. It’s power, power that must be respected and revered, because firearms were very much a part of the birth of this nation and it’s continued existence. My girlfriend’s father carries concealed every day and that’s a big responsibility.
Guns are not, never were, and should never be the exclusive territory of deranged psychopaths. Ultimately, such people are in the minority, and the majority of law abiding, careful, mature gun owners shouldn’t be marginalized and punished for the egregious offenses of the lunatic few.
I’ve always found it quite deranged but on the other side also insanely funny that, in the USA, there is more controversy about a tit showing on live tv (which hasn’t killed anybody as far as i know), than there is about how anyone who wants to go on a killing spree could get a gun so easily.
And I know, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, but in case of killing sprees, the number of victims would have been a lot less if the culprit were only able to use a stick as weapon.
If the gun law was to become more strict, wouldn’t it already help a little.
He wouldn’t be using a stick though, that’s the point. He would have used the exact same stuff he was using. I’m not sure but I would say most of the stuff he was using was illegal anyway.

Once I saw The Exorcist on TV, and they did nothing to cover the gore, but as for the cursing, they changed pretty much every curse word to something safe, like “your mother sucks cocks in hell” to “your mother sows socks that smell”. In Germany there seems to be no problem with tits on TV (no matter at what time), cursing also doesn’t get censored. But in movies, series and games the gory parts mostly got cut…
In the German Half-Life, instead of dying, scientists and guards just sit down and shake their heads. Also, everyone’s a robot in one way or another, so blood is black, and limbs, organs, and other gory stuff is replaced with springs and broken metal. The German government shouldn’t do this, it’s idiotic and intrusive to media.

The government started that unnecessairy censorship because of a shooting spree on a german school. Some fools claimed that video games like Counter Strike made the killer aggressive and wanting to kill his school mates. That’s just stupid…
They should update the German version of TF2 to make it all Pyro-Vision lol
