Could anyone please post a video? I am away from my BMS install, so I would love for some form of demonstration. Thanks.
I will do a video when I have finished the changes proper…
I don’t want to waste time doing a video when the time could be better spent doing actual work on the sounds… I will release 1.3 probably by the end of this week and from there do a video. Once that iis up… I will wait for feedback and give it some time…
If anything needs addressing then I will do a version 1.4 with anything that could be improved or any fixes for example.
Yeah, I have those mod aswell, but I don’t want all of them, just the sounds which give a more complete feeling to the mod
Only the distant gunfire sounds and distant screams which you could not hear in the original game in questionable ethics which I had to re-do and I have redone the distant gunfire soundscapes for ST they are different from any other mod pack I have come across. I have used the distant HL2 gunfire so this is now very clean and crisp.
I have put the original sounds back in so it will overwrite the long jump module back to it’s original sound and the access granted retinal scanner Sound is also restored.
Anything else will not be altered in terms of soundscapes.
So far as updates I finished the 50 Calibre sounds this morning took ages to get it sounding good… I used the sound included in Black Mesa removed the sounds of birds tweeting… Somone quitely moaning… The anoying wobbly bass tone and merged it with the sound of a real Browning 50 calibre Assault Gun And balanced it to the other weapons in game…it is now a really meaty weapon and feels a lot more formidible both using it and taking fire from it.
The Flare I finished last night and it now sounds like a real distress flare and not a pancake sizzling in a frying pan.
Yeah, u have different vids on youtube of flares with their sound…
I have altered the Black Ops Assassins gunfire…
Although I said I was not altering them I mean their voices.
The Assasins gunfire is now consistant from close normal and far away and is more or less the same sound at 3 different volumes and I think it has made an improvement.
It is the Black Mesa Default sound merged with 2 other sounds one for close and normal a different sound for far shots by the assasins.
It keeps more consistancy to their attack sound.
Version 1.3 is up and available for download so I hope you folks enjoy using this in conjunction with the animation revamp… Have a great time.
I’m off to have a couple of cold ones now
Well I love those other mod, but I just want ambient sounds, no changes in the sound of the suit and such…
I did not change the sound of the suit… What are you talking about?
I am waiting for feedback now…And will do a video too.
It’s about another mod I installed first, it has great sounds, ambient sounds, water dripping in tunnels and such, then I installed yours…
I thought u would revamp the complete mod yourself with new/altered sounds…
I want to use only yours of course, instead of alot of other mods
Thanks Dragunov…
I did incorporate others work into this pack… This has been a lot of work so anything that I felt was an enhancement should be incorporated, and obviously saves me time on what I set out to do… as long as it does not cause a problem and the volumes are all over the place when you add different peoples work together. That is one of the main reasons to do this pack to have a sound mod that has consistancy to it as well as improve upon the sound and the feeling it gives you playing the game.
This sound Mod does not consider any other sound Mods you may have installed read first post
i.e. water dripping sounds when your not meant to hear water dripping sounds…Is not something I would add… So I would need to see this pack and if it is any good? Black Mesa already has these effects in the game you know…
I never planned to alter all the sounds in Black Mesa or the animation Revamp It is meant to be a companion piece to both and this pack would be a further enhancement to the game experience…
Could you post a link to this pack please? I will check it out…
While I was testing just before releasing 1.3 I noticed that some music tracks are at different volumes… This makes the volume slider in the options menu defunct.
So I may re-balance the soundtrack or the tracks that need rebalancing and make an add on pack for this as it needs a fix… But it won’t happen today…
I will rebalance the soundtrack in 1.4 and I am also adding a sound for the Long Jump Module Jump Boost Which I found on Game Banana by Zeroizoid… Which is an improvement also.
So not much more to say than that until someone says that something I have done is no good then… 1.4 will be on the way by next week and this should be the proper final of this Sound Mod
Ah yes I looked at that… I did not install it though… And with everything I have been doing it slipped under the net…
I will include the soundscape files and enhancements in the next pack… to top it off…Crediting the Author Along with the rebalanced soundtrack I’ll be doing.
This way everything will be in place in terms of sound improvements and a single port of call.
Although the weapons will conflict with what I have done and will not be included.
But It seems that this Revamp still is not over yet…
Edit
While looking through that sound and enhancement MOD folders half the sounds in fact most are just thrown in from HL2 structure file format so Black Mesa is not even playing the water noises or in fact most of the Sounds are in completely the wrong folders so it is not even having an effect in game… Let alaone any enhancement… Oh well…Without testing it… Perhaps the HL2 code in Black Mesa will play them?
If there are any sounds that will improve upon sounds in this pack I’ll atleast put them in the right folder so it makes the difference but I will test this out before adding the pack.
But I will confirm this now that that bloke don’t know what he is doing recording a video of water dripping something that is already in the game by default. Tisk Tisk
He has also ruined the sound of the assassins footsteps one of the only defining sounds about them… If anyone gets that pack stay clear of the sounds folder it has issues…
But one good thing it has inspired me to update freemans apprehension knockout blow… And that now sounds really quite painful
I have decided against the Jumpmod sounds too… not enough variation th BM default sounds are superior
Well I had a look at the vid aswell of those mod (with those given link on gamebanana) and it sounds very nice indeed…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mApFgkL3i6I&feature=player_embedded
If u can update those aswell and add them to your pack, I only need to use your pack and I’m sure everything is great!
Except those updated sound suit in those mod…
The problem is that video does not show you what it sounded like before the change…
I have listened to both the original and the proposed improvement this pack offers and in most cases if not all the Black Mesa default sounds are superior not to mention that the water dripping sound effect is the one in game by default supplied by Black Mesa Devs because the sound effects this guy included are in the wrong folder have the wrong name so the game is not looking for them nor playing them in most cases.
The Distance explosion is worse and just sounds muffled compared to the original sound for instance
Loss of the metal footsteps the assassins have
The only thing I have taken from this pack is inspiration… Lets not go around in circles please
The only change that might be worthy is the test chamber laser but even that I have doubts before testing this.
I am not changing anything for the sake of it… If I think I can make a real improvement I will.
basically I think you will understand this…
I AM NOT USING THOSE SOUNDS
Okay no problem!!!
I see what u’ve done in the next release!
No problem… I just had to make it clear…
So I am playing with Joels Nielsons tracks which don’t get me wrong I like the music… Am I making an improvement… It’s a different sound… Is it better or worse???

and it is still a WIP
Ok update… I have finished equalizing all the tracks and rebalanced but I am having to check what it sounds like in game but the main bulk of the work on the soundtrack is finished… This is a fix at the wrong stage… This should have been balanced at mixdown and master so what I am doing is not ideal but #it will have to do…Just rebalancing for in game is only now required.
This means a final release should be due next week… But It has made an improvement and The new default volume is better and adequetely loud not clipping out basically… Being able to hear both the music and th sound effects in inbound for instance was something I am quite pleased I did this now and I don’t have to touch the music volume.
I tried making a video and had issues all I have is crappy windows movie maker so if anyone could do me the honour of doing a video I would really appreciate it… But If I do a video it won’t be until final release is posted.
So as for upates I have spent hours trying to mix the soundtrack and get it all balanced and the game fights against the sound… Well it does not fight it’s just bad to have big battles and music simultaneously…
So I don’t know wether the music is worth trying to fix because obviously they have ran into the same problems as myself…
I’ll show what I have done as an example but as I said it is not an ideal situation to do this after mastering but here is what I have done… Don’t recomend installing this into Black Mesa but I spent hours on it but it will not be officially part of this Mod any longer but lessons to learn from it all perhaps… The link to my work on the soundtrack below. If you decide you want to use this set your music volume to maximium as that is what I mixed to.

In other news…
I have fixed the distant explosion in Surface Tension redid the the mine explosion and a few others and I have done some other minor tweaks for final release. so I am practically there with it
Final Release is up in the first post!!! I am finished finally.
I have decided against doing a video… You will have to decide if you feel lucky or not… It will also spoil all the nice goodies in this pack…You willl just have to trust me that I have done my best to improve your next play through… And I would rather players just noticed the touches I have made as they play the game.
You can always overwrite this pack by backing up your sound and script folders… But I hope you play through the whole game with the animation revamp, the particle pack and this pack (BMS soundskin) and keep it and consider it an enhancement.
…not making a preview video for sound changes seems rather rude, no offense
being able to hear the changes and see them in action helps appeal to people to use them
Sorry don’t mean to come across as rude at all…
I just updated the link in the first post because there was one sound that needed fixing…
As it did something undesireable when you blow up the tower in surface tension… So sorry about that… But fix has been made. To anyone using the pack.
quick fix for it here
