Black Mesa Classic Weapons

I dunno, I think it looks perfectly fine.

Regarding poses and origins, I think the main issue with BM’s retail guns are the models and sounds, neither of which are very aesthetically pleasing. The animations and the origins seem pretty okay. Would you consider having two versions if you’re adamant on recreating HL’s look and feel; one with BM’s origins and one with your modified version? Just an idea. I’d be fine with either. I just want this to come out lol.

A brand new Half-Life game got announced. What a strange world we live in. Now all we need is the final chapter of Xen and the Classic Weapons pack to be released and it’s Half Life heaven.

So the final beta seems to be here. Any idea when we can expect the release of classic weapons mod on Workshop?
The idea of it’s release being soon kind of excites me.

Any news on this beauty?
Would be nice and symbolic to release it along with Xen.

Also looking forward to any possible news.

Hey, getting close to the new decade, let’s just do a big news dump!

First off: we managed to get Gunship Mark II, creator of MMod and tons of other smaller source projects, on-board as the FX artist. All this is just from his first day porting his old effects in and polishing them up, not sure if he’s planning on doing anything beyond these.

Additionally, I suppose with that YouTube video I may as well finally announce what I did in regards to sound. After months of searching and careful editing I’ve managed to find the HD sources to around 70% of the original weapon foley and gunfire sounds used in HL1. I’ve done loads of edits to them from their original 96-192 kilohertz Ultra-HD formats to bring them to the 44.1 khz Source engine standard.

Yes, you read that right, all sounds for the Crowbar, Glock, 357, Shotgun, Crossbow, and RPG, as well as the MP5 fire/reload and Tau Cannon charge loop have been found and subsequently remastered in HD. (I also found tons of ambient and foley effects, all of which I’m going to be documenting how to obtain when the pack is released, but those aren’t as exciting.)

And hey, that’s a big one that most people are wondering: When is the damn thing gonna be available?

I still can’t give a 100% concrete answer, given we learned from the masters themselves and would rather not make a Do-Or-Die deadline, but the current goal is by the end of January, given Game Zombie doesn’t have anything pop up between now and then.

Please keep in mind Game Zombie’s still got a lotta shit to fix, and a LOT of other projects he’s promised at least some time to. He’s focusing on this the heaviest, but he’s only human. After all, he still has shit like this to contend with:

Just so I don’t leave on a downer note, as a show of good faith that yes, I did indeed find the sounds and I’m not yanking your chains (and to tide a few of you over just a tad) here’s probably my favorite of all the sounds I touched up. Namely because it barely needed any touching up and was glorious fresh out of the box. Everyone’s favorite real-life mortar fire turned 12-gauge shot, sbarrel1:

That’s all for right now. See you all in 2020!

Holy crap! Hype! Nice move getting Gunship Mark on board! I can’t believe how good everything looks.

Is the explosion anim going to be same for all explosive weapons? Or is it planned with some variations?

It’s going to be the same across all weapons, we’d need coding to make it behave differently, I believe. The smoke / sparks are dynamic though, and just like the sounds and icons all the VFX are completely optional and stored in separate vpks. If anyone doesn’t like any part of the pack they’re more than free to delete one or more of them.

Looks dope, great work. For those who prefer guns to sound more realistic rather than classic Half-Life style, I’m working on a sound pack myself. Though i’m not happy with the .357 so I’m probably gonna change it.

What 357 model is that? It doesn’t look like the standard one.

Ye. That’s the Cold Cobra I believe.

Well done, good job on the MP5 Grenade glock Shotgun and Rocket Launcher.

Nice to see it going well.

Is their a reason why the origin of MP5 change?
At least compare to the very first video in this thread, which mirror the original HL more

(Or maybe it is just a viewmodel fov thing…or something change mid development and I miss it in this massive thread)

It is still the best MP5 skin imo, just being curious

Thanks for video, I haven’t seen this. Comparing old/new positions, I like both. The old one is pure nostalgia trip, while the latest is kinda nice balance between BM and HL1.
However I do like more the older reload anim, but it probably do not fit into BM reload time, where mp5 reloads quite fast.

IIRC from earlier in the thread it was stated that they dropped having original animations and instead are using Black Mesa’s, with the new models fitted over them.

Correct! I’m pretty sure we’re going to try adjusting positioning and FOV as one of the last steps before release.

Don’t feel any pressure to make the origins 100% replicas of the originals. If you’re using BM’s vanilla anims then they were made with some specific origins in mind, so things like reload animations might end up looking weird af.

Scroll up, there’s a big ol’ post with the latest update, a video, new animated gifs of the weapons, and the planned (fingers crossed) release of late January.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
