Black Mesa 2009 Update

Lies. He will still download the game as soon as he hears it’s done. :stuck_out_tongue:

:frowning:

I don’t suppose that you could make it so that you could be notified if people who said they won’t download it actually do, so that we could all laugh at them and their lies.:awesome:

On page twenty-something I asked whether you still want some kind of help from forumites, such as suggestions (and of what kind).

Basically: What kind of Suggestions, Ideas or Help could be contributory to the mod at this point of development (if any)?

Just got back from holiday and must admit that I did a few times think about BM release date! LOL! sad I know while on holiday!

I just hope it gets finished… not really too worrid about a release date… keep up the good work fellas and Happy New Year to you all.

As a side note:

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU

Some Fan of Half Life.

Expect the smell of your ass get burn up like BBQ.

Right on, Eric. Right on.

It is a valid question but the answer is not easy.

On one hand we could say we are at a finishing point and wont really be needing any suggestions. It has been a while since we have heard a suggestion that has not been heard before so it is possible that even the fans are all out of suggestions.

On the other hand we would hate to squelch any great ideas that could still be implemented. For example: “How about making the color scheme of xen blue instead of green” I dont know much about building maps or designing the templates, but if this type of suggestion catches fire on the dev team, maybe it is something easy to implement even in the final stages. :s hrug:

You never know when a great nugget comes in. So in short, I would say to keep them coming but keep the expectations realistic.

If nothing else, once the mod is released the suggestion area will more than likely be continued for bug reports or whatnot.

last night I opened Black Mesa Source page and didnt respond, so I thought that It could be updating ( BMS release announcement ), so I went to bed and today I checked and well, nothing new!

…correct. Well done?

Explanation here

what a bunch of crap XD

-we? lol, looks like you are the only impatient-ass-kid here.
-mod? it’s an uber pwnage remake of one of the best FPS games in history!
-five years? pfff, some games take much longer to develope dude, people are waiting for Diablo 3 more than 9 years now!

better a late and good game than a game full of bugs, dev team, keep up the good work!

I hope zombie freaking out in front of computer is still there…

SpamBana, don’t ‘spam-bana’ this thread with things that don’t go here.

Do eet you homosexual.

Sorry; how’s 'bout “I’ll bide my time to wait and see?” I’m just wondering after 1540 posts on this thread what more is there to say? Understandably continued speculation on the release date and yelling at those who waste their time to complain but it’s all just the same old song and dance. If that’s all there is to this thread then I’ll be content to do as my predecessors have done on this hallowed ground and be doomed to repeat their history of proclaiming “STFU” to whiny 14-year-old’s who’ve always gotten their way by throwing a tantrum to their mommy’s but now no amount of hissy-fits or temper-tantrums will give them such a prize as this that they’ve somehow convinced themselves they deserve but in truth none of us do… except the developers - you’ve all worked hard on creating something beautiful - kudos!

It seems to me that those who are complaining about the long development cycle of this mod need a little dose of perspective. For example, you could play through Half-Life again and realize that the game is a lot longer and full of scripted events than you might remember. This isn’t a 2-hour play through mod like Research and Development! This “mod” will easily eat up 20 hours of your time, plus whatever you put into the achievements (which I imagine are challenging to code all by themselves). Add to that the truly phenomenal expansions and revisions being made by this talented team, like this mind-blowing screenshot illustrates:

What was once an empty dead-end corridor now looks like something out of a James Cameron flick. Is it any wonder it’s taken 5 years of part-time work by a large spread-out team of modders, many of whom have been transient?

I say cut 'em some slack. You’ll be grateful enough when Black Mesa is finally released.

As of now Black Mesa is like waiting for an elevator from the bottom of the Burj Buzz to reach the top. Just because pushing the button repeatingly isn’t going to make it go faster, that’s not going to stop me from doing it.

Eh, whatever man. I was as hacked off as anybody by the blown deadline, but I got over it and I didn’t go off flaming anybody to do it. Half-Life fans though we are, it doesn’t have to be at the cost of ignoring all the other games that have recently come out or will be out soon. Some people I know are drooling all over themselves for Modern Warfare 2, which I guess is a good game but not really in my range of interests. Next month, however, I will be playing the new Aliens vs. Predator game whether or not BMS is released by then.

Though, I must admit that Black Mesa being released on or around February 22nd would be the best birthday gift EVAR.

But I’m not holding my breath, and neither should you. Work on the project is moving forward, we have the new media being added to the wiki to demonstrate that. I’d bet that work predictably slowed during the winter holidays, but now that they’ve passed I’m sure the pace will pick back up and we’ll be enjoying our stroll through the new, improved Black Mesa Research Facility well before we know it.

Cue the “cool story, bro” images:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
