Black Mesa 2009 Update

“Well for one thing NO ONE here knows for sure how much effort is being put into the mod to release on time. After all the notification of a date was done over 12 months in advance! In that time there is NO ONE here that can say 100% that they gave 110% to get this mod released on time.”

Well, no one knows how much effort is not being put into the mod. It is not like we are watching them. I bet you have no clue how much work it takes to do the work they have done. Personally, I feel that they have given updates after long periods of time and I feel that those updates were worth it.

“Infact by the comments made by the team on motivation and the release date would indicate a lack of effort on their part to release the mod on time until maybe the VERY end.”

Maybe, but I doubt they are going to lose sleep over them losing honor with people like you. I doubt they will lose much fanbase as long as they get this out in a grade A form.

“Lets not forget there are plenty of people in life that don’t follow through or never finish ANYTHING on time. Since we don’t know any of the developers it could be a majority is made up of these types of people, then again it may not.”

If they have done this much, then they aren’t one of those people. I am one and I know that I wouldn’t even get 1/4th of the way before giving up.

“I find it hard to believe that all the 1- 5 post posters that say “take your time”, “do it when you can we support you” as being legit and not possibly team members diverting attention from their failure to complete the project in the specified time. Then again these posts may be legit and some people don’t care when anything happens.”

Im not a team member. Suck it. It is called ‘I have a life’ and ‘maturity.’ Not, “Waaaaah I want it now!” and “They didn’t get it out on time?! Waaaaah!” If all things happened when they said they would, would the world come to an end? Weren’t the soldiers in WWII promised that the war would end early and it turns out that it didn’t? Did those soldiers just suddenly quit because the war didn’t end on time?

“I don’t feel the OWE me anything, I am a lurker from time to time, because this mod has taken way too much time than would have been needed. But it’s THEIR mod and hobby, like I said they aren’t getting paid. But I DO feel they OWE the community they built and who supported them fanatically to try to give 110% and finish this project, and atleast some explanations on the delay and why.”

If they finish “ALRIGHT!! YEAH!!!” if not, “Eh…guess I have the other 10 RL things to do now…” They didn’t finish because they didn’t finish. Just as their longest held release date was something along the lines of “It is done when we finish.”

“As to comments about my “back then reply”, yes men were paid, but they also did this on ANYTHING they did, if they gave their word they KEPT it, if they said they would finish the garage before noon, they did everything they could to keep it. So money was NOT a factor back then, it was Honor and their Word. By giving a Date 1 year in advance is the same as giving their word that the project would be finished.”

I’m not losing sleep over it. I am confident they will finish it soon and the wait will be worth it. I won’t lose sleep and go to my blog and write emo shit about how my heart was betrayed and how life is pain.

“To those of us who believe in a person’s word and how it reflects on them, we see nothing in the team’s posts to indicate that they did everything that COULD be done to finish this mod on time, but instead still had motivational issues with team members or leaders to finish this project up.”

Yeah, if those people broke their word, they made up for it. I may have lost trust in them, but I gave them a chance to make up for it. I didn’t just say “Fuck you man!” and never speak to them again. They DO have real lives you know? Maybe it wasn’t “motivational issues” as you keep bringing up. Unless the devs mentioned that specifically somewhere…

“IMO this reflects on their word, for those that believe such things are useless dribble, it will not matter to them nor would they understand. To the VAST majority who do lurk or do believe their word should NEVER be broken, will see how ALL the mod team have shamed themselves by not KEEPING their WORD.”

This isn’t ancient Japan where breaking your word meant death or a life of shame…god. If everyone things that they are shamed, go play another free mod that is more awesome than this will be. More Blackmesa for me.

“For me I can wait, I WOULD love to play a better version of Halflife but after all it’s a darn game, but that still doesn’t DEFLECT the responsibility of them KEEPING their WORD. Nothing can change that, its done, they failed to keep it and they lost Face, whether they know it or not is immaterial. They only compound it by not giving an explanation on WHY they were delayed and lay blame where it may.”

We could always look at it in the American perspective. The public blames the president for everything. Even if it was someone elses fault…always the president. They can see him, so he is the target. It doesn’t matter what the reasons are. Even if it is because the Senate and House couldn’t agree. His fault. For all we know, the devs had some RL issues.

Let’s say that a dev has a job…would their RL job be more important than finishing this mod for us? If they got fired because they worked on this mod more than their job, wouldn’t you feel like a d-bag or would you tell them that they were stupid for not dealing with their RL first?

“And to those posters who say take your time dont worry that you didnt keep your release date, could be fuelling LONGER delays from the mod team if they are the type of people who delay by nature. Most of the time people take that for agreement. Similar to Congress if people didnt complain they wouldnt get the point they did something wrong and would continue the same as always. People should be upset and should let them know it. Whether it will motivate them or not who cares, but telling them take your time WILL NOT motivate them to finish early. They are almost done, they dont need moral support anymore, they need motivation to finish the project.”

…I can’t even start thinking about how many issues you have dude. Seriously, you take the cake. You keep coming up with stuff about habitual procrastination and motivational issues. Telling them to take their time and get a great product isn’t telling them to do it whenever they feel like. It is saying “Hey, finish up” in a polite way that isn’t “FASTER! FASTER! I want MY mod done!” in my opinion. So now you are saying they are almost done? Are you sure they haven’t just brainwashed you into that mentality? Maybe they lied about everything and it is really only 50% done! I can’t waste my time reading this anymore. My IQ is dropping from reading your posts. I can’t believe I wrote this…

SUMMARY!

  1. tl;dr
  2. Wah
  3. Hurrderderder
  4. Shawhoop
  5. COMMUNISM!
  6. Profit!

Fixed/summarised. I didn’t want people to skip your post because it was too long, so I summarised it for you while keeping the mood, sentiment and core message intact.

You’re welcome.

To the devs - the mod is looking great. Can’t wait.

Have I ever told you guys how much I love this forum?

Edit: Oh, best first post ever, Shasta. You’re my favorite cockroach.

Isnt flaming against the rules shasta? Your doing a direct attack and not showing the proper respect for forum rules. Its an issue we are talking about on the release date, and not personal attacks to one another. I also see its your first post interesteing that you would post one time to say this. …

GordonsReturn, I understand some of your reply, but using terms like “Suck it” with Mature doesnt come to mind. also lets be civil and not do personal attacks, it not only violates forum rules but also doesnt show a mature attitude to take anything replied seriously.

or we could just move on.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, you entire post basically said “WAaaaaaaah, you didn’t finish on time! Dishonor for your entire house! Shame! Shave your head! You are heretics! Oh, you are almost done. Come on guys! They are just not motivated!”

So tell me who will be taken more seriously. You or I?

“I find it hard to believe that all the 1- 5 post posters that say “take your time”, “do it when you can we support you” as being legit and not possibly team members diverting attention from their failure to complete the project in the specified time. Then again these posts may be legit and some people don’t care when anything happens.”

I found comments like that insulting to me, even if you may not believe it. It appeared to me like you were saying that we are fake and that the devs are just trying to make excuses.

Firefly… You know you can go on to the Steam group for Black Mesa devs and look at the hundreds upon hundreds of hours they have spent in the editor. And that only shows what they’ve done in the editor. Much has to be done outside. Have facts before you write a page-long post.

I think it suffices to say that Raminator and NateDGreat are currently in the Source SDK. RIGHT NOW.

GR, its depends on the age group and maturity level, that’s who will. Who knows?

You seem like an Ok guy, and you have a right to disagree with what I posted, All I am saying is lets keep this civil and mature. I already stated that people who believe honor or a person word should be kept is dribble, would not understand my post in that regard.

Thats ok though…

Madcat1030, I am only going by what the developers post themselves, I didnt post the problem with motivation, they did. Hence it tells things that are happening in a team. I too deal with teams and as Prject leads, I know how this happens, what causes it, and how it can ruin any project release date.

That being said, based on their trailer the work looks great, but since they are not doing a new engine etc. one has to ask is it 5-6 years great? It a hobby and I am sure they treated it as so.

Let’s keep the whining as civil as possible.

At least your complaining is not limited to being directed at the BM devs I guess. This is their website. You are flaming them for not releasing the mod. I merely made a comment that probably put a smile on their faces. If I brightened their day by poking a little harmless fun at you then I’m grateful to be able to be able to give something back to them tbh. I even kept it very civil.

Basically you come in here moaning and flaming the devs, then you try to prevent anyone disagreeing with you by crying foul. Be prepared to be criticized and mocked when you make comments like the ones you’ve been making.

2 wrongs don’t make a right shasta. Your post was pure attack and flame even if it’s considered funny by some. I never attacked the developers with name-calling, just stated and opinion that they are welcome to reply to if they wish.

Forums are for open discussion and sometimes debate, throwing mud accomplishes nothing.

You mini-modding doesn’t make a right either, but you haven’t heard any of us complaining…I tried that route before and got slammed with a warning. Also, you picking out points in my post(Two words to be precise) and not really commenting on the rest makes me feel that I am wasting my breath with you.

Lol. This is nice. Two new forum members, on opposite sides. The funny thing is, for once, I agree more with the person who joined today/yesterday. Well, I don’t really agree with either of them, cuz I’ve only skimmed them (I really couldn’t read firefly’s whole post right now, lol), but I like shasta’s attitude… Firefly’s is a bit platitudinous.

NOTE: OMG A USE FOR THAT WORD!

I just read through another one of his posts… is he seriously accusing people who aren’t angry at the release date of being Dev’s in disguise… That’s it, I’m off for the night. Tomorrow this will all have been buried by flames…

but in all seriousness, i think it’s best we move on. There’s been a number of people before you firefly, that have made virtually identical posts, and it plays out the same each time.

GR, the reason I didnt respond to your entire post is most of your reply spoke for itself. There was no need for me to reply that would only lead to hurt feelings and possible violations of forum rules by flaming.

I said you seem to be an ok guy, lets let it go at that. I understand there are many long time forum members that disagree or even feel a need to defend them. But personal attacks lead nowhere. And a nasty attitude by a previous poster should never be tolerated or supported, as they will never learn that is not how people communicate with one another in a civilized way.

So basically you are saying “I won’t reply to 99% of your post because I am going to ramble about wanting civilized discussion by ignoring it.”

Alright, im going to sleep. Worthless discussion.

Maybe tomorrow I will act like I do while at work and psychologically analyze everything you write and see what kind of person you are…or I will carry on with my life because fretting over a delayed mod makes about as much sense as lighting yourself on fire just because you want to know what it is like.

Demanding an explanation and a release doesn’t make you right firefly. Your post was pure attack and flame (of the devs) and is considered rude by most. I never attacked the developers (unlike you), I just clarified (and commented on) your pushy, rude, demanding, and un-called for attitude, and they are welcome to reply if they wish.

Forums are for open discussion and sometimes debate, demanding the devs release the mod and explain themselves etc accomplishes nothing.

Am I doing it right?

You can’t win. Yes, it’s a shame that the devs set a hopeful release target and didn’t make it. But that’s ALL it is - a shame. Get over it, or continue to amuse us.

You can’t possibly try to claim I’m flaming you either - I’m simply presenting facts and common sense to you in a rational and calm way.

Firefly101, I don’t think this forum is for you.

This is getting tiresome…

Returns after rereading Shasta’s post from awhile ago!

Wait! The devs cancelled SpongeBob!?!? Damn you Ram! :’(

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
