Many years ago, I once was jealous of a classmate of mine because he broke his leg and everyone was signing his cast and shit. I wished my leg also broke so people would pay attention to me.
True story.

It is generally better to awe people with an awesome talent rather than broken limbs.
I was a very stupid kid, tbh.
I was jealous of people with non-broken arms for about 2 months when I broke my arm.
Every time I saw someone hold a PS2 controller I was like FUCK!
Kinect must have been invented by a guy with a broken arm.
There was an Xplay skit about a guy losing his hands at the N64 reveal and then inventing (or rather coming up with the idea for) a game console that’s just one giant touch pad.
I miss good Xplay .
More like a broken brain.
I can’t remember seeing any (new) film this year. Oh wait, I did watch Shutter Island, which was excellent (but what else do you expect from Scorsese). I really can’t remember watching any other 2010 film, so maybe I didn’t.
In conclusion, Shutter Island is both the worst and the best 2010 film I watched (that I remember).
Inception? Toy Story 3?
nope
i only watched shutter island because i downloaded it, i barely ever go to the cinema, even though i worked there for a while in 2010 and i could go for free
i did watch about half an hour of some dutch film (ademloos) during food break
Man you need to go check that shit then man!
Watch The Social Network, Kick Ass and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World while you’re at it.
Oh yeah and I recently rewatched Shutter Island myself, really excellent movie.
Except for The Incredibles.
Oh shut up, fag.
fuck you
ITT: general film discussion, eh? I thought this was about being a cool hipster and stuff
On topic:
I liked Avatar (yeah 2009 but I dont care). It was decent and it didn’t disappoint me as it gave me what it promised. Which was a decent movie with cool visuals.
I think Inception was good, but not “THE BEST FUCKING MOVIE EVER” as many people described it. So I kinda like, you know, disliked it, I guess.
Avatar was a fine movie. Bland story, but did the job. And the visuals are amazing. And above all it was just thoroughly entertaining.
Inceptions is certainly not the best movie ever, but it’s still very good. I feel the emotions all kinda get lost in trying to understand the mechanics, but this improves if you watch it more than once. Still a solid 8,5 or so from me.
Kickass - good clean fun (but I liked Defendor more, I guess)
Inception - overhyped but still quite ok (shallow characters, interesting idea)
Harry Potter - I’ll wait for the other half to see the complete movie.
I hate it when they sell you half of the movie and you have to wait another year to see how it ends
Next great idea will be episodic movies - because it works sooo well for the gaming industry.
I agree, Inception is a solid movie, but how can a movie be “mind-blowing” when EVERY SINGLE THING is explained?
I repeat: I am not anti-inception. But a movie that has a bunch of one dimensional characters can’t be labeled as a MASTERPIECE.
That is just ignorance. I don’t have any examples off the top of my head, I am not one of those people that over-analyzes every movie that comes out, but while three dimensional characters can add a lot to a great story, they are not a necessity to making a great movie.
It depends on what kinda movie you’re looking for.
Movie’s that are only there to entertain a lot, don’t really need em. Like Avatar, for example. Which has extremely cliched characters. But it doesn’t matter because that’s not really the movie’s focus.
But if we’re talking about a masterpiece, I agree; it can’t be a masterpiece with one-dimensional characters.
In Inception it can kinda allow for one-dimensional characters because it’s sort of an experiment. But it would’ve benefited from better characters. I think if it’d left some of the technicalities in the dark (leave more open for discussion) and instead of those focussed a bit more on characters I think it could’ve been a masterpiece.
In my humble opinion; a masterpiece is a movie that is fantastic on all points. After which you can leave the cinema amazed, and without anything left to say. (Which I had with, for example, District 9 and the Shawshank Redemption. Which I do personally view as masterpieces)
