Before/After Experiment!

Some parts of Black Mesa in the original game had that futuristic feel, everything was clean, there were big empty spaces, and other things that gave Half Life its essence. Per example, Questionable Ethics, or Inbound. I just hope that’s not removed. I want to feel that again. I don’t mind if the mapping has been heavy modified. It doesn’t matter just as long as I can feel that.

That’s the only thing I worry about.

My only concern is gameplay and whether it will differ a lot from HL/HL2

I have no idea. I stumbled upon it a year ago when I looked up the standard Java Library’s date/time constants during an AP Computer Science class. Weird as hell.

Also, YES. :retard:

Linear level design, shoot guys with an arsenal of 10+ guns, the occasional puzzle possibly revolving around physics.

Kind of hard to fuck up.

My worries are, like many of you, about the voice of G-man. However, Kevin “Debeerguy007” Sisk did an excellent job with the security guards and scientists, in my opinion. Kevin, we have complete confidence in you!

As for good stuff, I’m looking forward to the entire atmosphere the game creates.

So hopefully no big ass CRT monitors. *Edit. Just watched the trailer again. D’oh. Well maybe that’s a good thing. It’s authentic to the original.

Well it does take place a couple of decades ago. Ish.

I just want the levels to feel a little bit more realistic than they were in HL1 (for instance, i want office complex to feel more like an actual office)… Its obvious the limitations of the engine HL1 was build on was the main factor, but from what ive seen thus far a little bit more realism to the environments is exactly what we are getting…

I think I’ll get a strong sense of nostalgia, coupled with a feeling of immersion.
The only things I’m worried about are, as said before, non-Valve animations and maybe some of the voice acting, although I’m not too worried about the G-Man as he sounds fine in the trailer. Oh, and I hope it isn’t too short.

I’m just a bit scared about some NPC voices and animations (mainly the talking animation). Other than that, I think the game will be great.

Guys, what are you talking about, have you heard the interview with voice actors (done some months ago)?? The g-man guy sounded fantastic, just as good as the original guy (Mike).

So don’t worry, g-man voice will be perfect

My concerns:
1: The voice acting (because of the YT video).
2: The difference might be so much that certain parts are unrecognisable.

Overall expectation is I’ll enjoy the mod 99.9% then go through the sequels for a Half-Life No-Life weekend.

Can anybody link me to this interview?

Search the friendly web:

  • Black Mesa Steamcast
  • Black mesa voice actors interview

You’ll find it easily

Thanks, found it.

I heard it a while back which previewed some of the Gman voice acting, i think the actor was asked to speak a line or two of dialogue and it was absolutely spot on.

I’m not worried about the game at all just sleep deprivation.

My biggest worries are the Hecu Soldiers AI and their voice overs. The aggressiveness of them was my favorite part of Half Life, and I hope they managed to carry it over to BMS. Everything else looks incredible, Valve quality, even, so I’m not worried about the rest.

I’m also concerned about the aggressiveness of the soldiers. That’s the biggest downfall in Half-Life 2 for me. The Combine were way too easy to fight, where the Half-Life 1 soldiers were very challenging.

Another thing I have on my mind as of 30 seconds ago is whether or not the puzzles have been redesigned so heavily that HL veterans won’t know exactly what to do. I seriously welcome the physics-based puzzles I’ve heard about.

Post Play Edit: Once again, devs delivered. New level designs came familiar but new puzzles.

I personally wish for a mix of old and new puzzles, or a twist on some of the old puzzles, simply because, while solving new puzzles can be fun, solving some of the old puzzles in new environments has great nostalgia value and can be just as fun despite the easiness of the puzzle. I still enjoy the tripmine puzzle in Surface Tension despite the fact that I know it by heart
