[ARG] The Pizza Code Mystery

straws.jpg

The big brain twister of this puzzle, I think, is this:

The HALOS hex code is an encrypted message that can be decrypted. But solving it has nothing to do with encryption… Or does it?

…If I’m interpreting what Storm has said correctly.

Where did you get that?

Das Google.

Okay, Why did you get that?

Ever heard of the phrase, ā€œgrasping at strawsā€?

i.e. This post

Whoever draws the shortest straw has to stay behind and detonate the nuke wile the rest of us get the hell out of here and get to minium safe distance.

Sorry to say, but I think the shortest straw was already picked…

If he honestly means that, then I’m surprised he’s been around this long.

How so?

There are many, many things that could be possibilities in this ARG, and I might debate–but would never outright refute–such possibilities. And then there are the times we run with speculation on missing textures, even when the initial poster indicated that it was likely (and is) a glitch.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

I have more pics coming soon.

Except in this instance, there are grounds for speculation, as this particular texture, in the original Steam release and all subsequent patches up to, but not including, the recently released 0.2.0 patch, had text that had references to ā€œDr. Hornā€ and ā€œpizza messagesā€.

I have no doubt that the missing texture was unintentional and a glitch brought on by the 0.2.0 patch. But the underlying reason why it’s missing is curious. The model file for the monitor has been updated and the name of the texture that’s being used for the monitor on Dr. Sezen’s desk has changed from ā€˜monitor_screen_on5’ to ā€˜monitor_deniz’. But the texture fails to load because there’s no such texture in the VPKs. The old texture file, however, is still there.

Until this is fixed in the next patch, we can only speculate about what’s going on with this texture. Is it just a simple texture rename? Or, has the texture been updated? If so, why? To add another clue or hint? Or, to remove the references to the ARG so as to remove another red herring for us?

Honestly, ever since the EAS broadcast grasping at straws is all we’ve been doing. We have made absolutely zero headway at all on solving the 752, which is the thing we’re supposed to be focusing on here. You could argue that we’re also supposed to be focusing on the story but even then we haven’t made much headway there either. We’re stuck. I have no idea how we’ll get out of it and I’m still going to try, but to say we haven’t been grasping at straws is the Pizza.

Came across a few YouTube channels relating to computing and numbers, could be useful to us.

I have came across these before but never thought to mention them here.

They should hopefully give us some ideas.

Comuterphile: a YouTube channel about computer and computer related stuff.

Numberphile: a YouTube channel about numbers but they have also made stuff about encryption including RSA for example.

Another thing, A is the 1st number in the English alphabet and the letter U is the 21st letter of the English alphabet and both are vowels, could relate to 21 into 1.

I also happen to notice that this ARG shows a lot of similarities to the portal args.

At one point of the first portal ARG there was the use of a 56k modem to access something important so i wonder if we are supposed to do something similar during the ARG.

Something tells me that Storm was probably inspired by those ARGs.

Here are some new pics for you guys.
More pictures are in the zip file located in this link: https://www.filedropper.com/bmsnewpicsforarg
The forum upload had an unknown error occurred during upload of the zip file.
These are also in the zip, but this ones are the most interesting to me.

Wasn’t there a looooooong time back(towards the beggining of the arg I think) where someone found a bunch of props and stuff in the files with jenn0 marked on it? It’s probably a dev, so maybe he worked with Storm on this arg. I remember some post it notes or something, so maybe it’s also related to your 2nd pic there.

First picture with binary was discovered multiple times (in mod version as well), on multiple locations.
I believe someone tried to translate it, but code didn’t work (not dividable by 8), and someone concluded it wasn’t important for ARG.
Not sure for rest of pictures though.

Something new: I can’t connect to Stormseeker website, since I get error ā€œERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUTā€.
He might be editing the site, to add something new, or forgot to pay subscription  .

Ah, see, I will admit that I did not do my homework there and therefore jumped to conclusions. I assumed that it was simply a missing texture, so I apologize for my oversight.

This is also a good point, and it seems that we get more desperate as time goes.

And that desperation scares me a bit. It’s a delicate balancing act that Storm has to manage, for if the ARG goes stagnant for too long, someone may do something stupid out of desperation and the possibility that some passerby may come along and ā€œassistā€ us increases with every day that passes. Much like he personally saw with the one ARG that involved hacking (and the subsequent shutdown), I doubt he would want his own masterwork to be spoiled by someone taking it too far. I don’t think there’s anyone here that would go to those lengths, especially since we’ve been struggling for three years now, but you never know when Joe Schmo Hacker is going to hop on the forums, see our plight, and then do what he does–whether out of actual consideration or maliciousness, the outcome is the same. However, Storm also can’t simply go around dropping solutions left and right, so he has to wait the appropriate amount of time before considering the next step. At this point, I’d be comfortable getting some more direct clues without considering it a ā€œpassā€ā€“no one wants a freebie in a game that’s supposed to be intensely difficult, but a few more direct lines that lead to a solution wouldn’t seem cheap in this instance. In my opinion, anyhow. I’d much rather we solve the puzzle ourselves, even with help, than have the whole thing shutdown.

Time will tell, I suppose.

Weird.

I am getting the same for onboarderror.com which is hosted on the same server as stormseekers website, both are registered to Anthony Stone.

I would also like to point out that bmrf.us directly references this thread.
