[ARG] The Pizza Code Mystery

An OTR fingerprint looks much smaller than the data we have. And I don’t see how it would help us anyway, since the fingerprint sounds like it’s just a hash of a private key. Ie, we can’t reverse the fingerprint to find the original key.

Also, there’s been some talk previously about “Off The Record” version 4.0. There is no version 4.0 of OTR. It simply doesn’t exist.

So maybe to libotr4.0? There’s for example this in base64 (b64.c):

/* ** Translation Table to decode (created by author) */ static const char cd64[]="|$$$}rstuvwxyz{$$$$$$$>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVW$$$$$$XYZ[\\]^_`abcdefghijklmnopq";
seems like custom for me.

So why on Earth I have the theory that the cliff place has something to do with Xen level?

From Stormseeker’s Black Mesa profile.

Not sure if this has already been found out, but your last part of the sentence immediately brought robots.txt in my mind:
https://www.thestormseeker.com/thepizzaisalie/robots.txt says:

Edit: Nevermind, this seems to be a custom 404 page and has already been mentioned. Of course, stupid forum search failed on this.

I think many of us here have had an OMG moment at least once at some point in this ARG, only to have our hopes dashed shortly after.

This is old news, but I don’t think it has been mentioned before: The day after the “Tempus omnia revelant” page appeared on the wiki, an anonymous commenter posted this comment:

The IP address of the anonymous commenter is 84.9.123.189 or host-84-9-123-189.dslgb.com, which is in the same ISP IP range as the IP addresses used by Dr_Horn/Watcher on IRC.

If this comment was indeed posted by stormseeker himself, most likely, it is confirmation that the page does indeed contain a clue to the hex code puzzle.

I was snooping through the wiki, looking for some leads, and I found some small things. First, through all the IRC messages, Dr.Horn seems to be upgrading his OTR version. The first is at 2.0 and counts all the way up to 4.0, which is apparently the current one. Also, the “subject analysis: tenacious” part of the message I think is a reference to Portal, as that is what I believe was shown in one of the Portal 2 comics as Chell’s analysis. Finally, MINDAT in the message refers to some database of minerals with niobium, though it had nothing useful in it.

Also, the bmrf.us domain name has expired. It says so on the page when loaded.

What if the key was hidden in an old clue, like the missing letters in IRC Clue 1?

Proxyhost@-84-9-123-164.dslgb.com//closed.proxy.accepted//?OTR,1,3,?OTR:[I---MI-G TR--SMI---ON - UN---WN S##RCE] OTR:~'// Dr///#~`  B..Ami ~### ~ Not ##~ami... {interrupt}

+*&*&#//#// KON ,,-mi C-de. Dr H--N #~~ Don__### LET HIM __ fi#d.....us . {Dr Wel##}~~ [Terminal.] ~~ [Transmission Ends]

The missing letters are:

I---MI-G TR--SMI---ON - UN---WN S##RCE] OTR:~'// Dr///#~`
NCO N AN SSI KNO OU

B..Ami ~### ~ Not ##~ami...
 on ?? ??

+*&*&#//#//

KON ,,-mi C-de. Dr H--N #~~ Don__### LET HIM __ fi#d.....us . {Dr Wel##}~~ [Terminal.] ~~ [Transmission Ends]
       a o OR NOT n SH

Maybe not this one, but the old clues might be worth another look.

that was just a hint that “bon ami” was wrong and that it was supposed to be “KONAMI”

Yeah, but what if there’s more to that clue? Remember, it was repeated in the wiki clue. Also, a day or two before the wiki clue appeared, stormseeker updated the first post in response to an angry poster who complained about the first post not being up-to-date. One of the edits he did was to add something at the end of the following sentence (stormseeker’s edit shown in red):

This sentence follows a discussion about Code A and the first IRC clue, which eventually led to the “terminal” message. This kind of makes you wonder if there’s something else we’ve missed about these clues. Both IRC clue 1 and the terminal message appear in the wiki clue. However, it’s not really clear if the tag question is referring to Code A, IRC clue 1 or the terminal message, and he did also flag IRC clue 1 as solved, so we can’t really know for sure what it means. Perhaps he’s just saying that nothing was incorrectly encoded, but was designed that way.

It has been retaken…! Looks like bmrf.us really does mean something about the ARG.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the ARG. Here is the registration information for the domain site:

Domain Name: BMRF.US
Domain ID : D37352589-US

Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID : 48

A quick Google search of “Josh Hubi” brings up a gentleman in NYC who works at Burst Media. This is probably just a pet project of his that he has yet to finish, so he continuously re-registers the domain name so it’s not lost.

EDIT: And here is part of his resume:

[i]Co-Founder, Product Manager

I think we can rest assured that this site has nothing to do with the ARG.

That’s a joke right? Please tell me that’s a joke.

Gunsrequiem, are you not aware that Josh Hubi is Hubicorn? :what:

A DNS lookup of bmrf.us returns the IP address 64.15.147.56 (the same as it was before the domain expired and then renewed). That’s the same IP address that the terminal.blackmesasource.com site is hosted on.

Also, when stormseeker edited the first post, he also mentioned bmrf.us in one of the bullet points he added at the bottom of the post:

Hmmmm . . . I had no idea of this! That is crazy!

I’m not trying to be a dick, but I am trying to lighten the mood a bit. Granted, we’re stuck, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun!

And to clarify to those who may have taken me seriously: YES, the bmrf.us site is essential to the ARG, at least in the sense that its potential use for further down the road has been made exceptionally apparent to us.

EDIT:

Also, I don’t know if this has been cleared up, but I viewed the Tempus page in standard formatting and it looks as though the italicized letters are meant to be one message, and the bolded letters are an addendum to the message. Therefore, it reads:

Seek Code out he is watching

and

Is AI

This has already been determined in a number of ways, but I figured I’d add my interpretation.

Sorry to start a new reply right after my own, but the previous one was starting to get a bit packed.

One thing I’m noticing about this is that there are a lot of references to the concept of justice. For instance, the quote from Star Trek is from the episode “Justice”. Also, the entire concept of Dante’s Inferno revolves around justice–those souls in Hell are condemned to having their own crimes committed against them, which is the epitome of justice. Much like Hammurabi’s code–an “eye for an eye”.

Furthermore, this entire ARG is about getting justice for a wrondoing–or wrongdoings. I’m not sure what good linking all these clues to justice does, but it was simply a thought I had. Perhaps there will be keywords related to this, such as “Hellgate” for justice was described here in Dante’s Inferno, or quite simply “Justice”.

That gave me an idea, but reverse dns search got only https://gman.blackmesasource.com/ :meh:

Ah, you had me going there for a while. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not sure if that will ever be clear. It’s a bit of a mystery why he was not bolded, while the other italicized characters were bolded. It might have been an error, or perhaps he is meant to stand out in the message. Or, perhaps it’s supposed to relate to both parts of the message, like this:

seek Code out he is watching
he Is AI

But why was an uppercase ‘I’ bolded, and not, for instance, the lowercase ‘i’ in the word offering? What if ‘Is’ is short for isotopes? However, I’m not sure what that could mean in terms of solving anything.

I tried overlaying the the caps/bolded letters from the original terminal message onto the Tempus version of the terminal message, but I didn’t get anything that seemed to make any sense.

Hmm . . . that was a good idea! Yeah, it’s hard to know what exactly any of this means at the moment, and I suspect we won’t know anything further until Storm and the other developers finish whatever they need to do under the NDA. If Storm is busy with that, we probably won’t get any further hints for a while–in fact, this may simply be a necessary stall in order for him to organize the rest of the ARG.
