An outsider's point of view on Black Mesa Release

Yeah, what he said.

I’m not totally sure why but, until just now, the site said that registration had been disabled by the admins. Dunno if that was just for me or whether nobody could register :brow:

Why the facepalm?
There must be something that was figured positive about Ram’s quote that wasn’t mentioned before in a loooong time or else there wouldn’t have been an entire thread devoted to it (and not just by a newbie but by a die hard forum member who’s been around for years).
I wonder what they figured that made the quote stand out. Faceplant away at them too then

I’d like to know why nobody has mentioned the steam chat at all. There are almost always 2-3 devs in it at once. And on more than one occasion I myself have asked a question and have had it answered. Fairly politely, too, so I don’t really get the impression the devs are assholes, either.

people post on the forums and get flamed… they in turn blame the dev team for the crappy behavior.

The thing with that, though, is that if people would have enough sense to read the FAQ, they’d know better than to ask stupid questions. And they wouldn’t have that problem. I read the FAQ when I joined and I knew better than to ask stupid fucking questions.

Then again, I also lurked for 3 years so I didn’t really have any questions to ask.

yup. I know. I agree actually.

I check blackmesa more than once a day, though I find it easier to contribute to the forums when you actually have something to contribute… my little thanks was scans of the BM PCpowerplay interview. I’m patient, I like updates, but I waited 3 years… I’m sure I can wait a little bit longer.

like   Im waiting it for 4 years…

Lol, well as long as a dev indicates every now and then that the mod is not actually dead I’m pretty happy. Thousands of other games
In the sea to keep me entertained.

Even if it does get cancelled so long as we’re made aware of the fact, I’m sure I’ll live.

This mod is a great example of how people never finish anything in their free time.

If it does get done is not a great example of what great things we could do if we had more free time in our lives?

fixed :3

That’s not really fixed because it’s not finished though…unless…

But Catz only said anything they want in their free time.” NOT everything they want in their free time.”
:stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with vorm completely. I got my first look at this mod in '05 thanks to an actively updating community at the time. I had originally registered and I believe there was a forum crash sometime in the last couple years, but that’s besides the point.

Around this same time in '05 a half life mod called Natural Selection was really booming. They’re currently working on Natural Selection 2 which is currently in open beta.
Also around that time I was messing with Sven Co-op; another half life mod. Though it is a rather outdated mod that’s been out for like 8 years, they still have updates to this day (last update: 9 January, 2011).
There was also a mod towards porting Half Life: Decay over to PC. Their last update was 2 days ago (2011-01-10) and they released over 2 years ago! And this is just a few examples.

The most recent official update I could find on this site was almost exactly 1 year ago and the mod hasn’t even come close to a release date yet.

My point is why wouldn’t you at least keep your loyal fan base open. Once you do release all this long hard work that you did for free, wouldn’t you at least want as many people as possible to enjoy it.

I have honestly given up. At one point I checked this site everyday. At this point I check here every other month for the last year, but really haven’t seen any progress besides a slowly dieing community posting in these forums. But hey who am I to judge… congratz on your latest milestone: 350+ days without an update and your not completely dead yet. Sorry to those offended, but its just the facts.

Dying? On New Years there were 1500 people in the cafeteria.
The mod IS relatively close to a release date, as Raminator’s recent quote can tell you.
I think if you look in the Wiki you’ll find hundreds of developer updates just from the past few months.
And this mod has such a big fanbase that, during ModDB’s “best upcoming mod” awards, they had to remove Black Mesa from the running because it had won too overwhelmingly too many years in a row.

So you see, those really aren’t the facts at all
But, oh, what am I thinking? You’ll never read this. You only check the website every other month.

EDIT: Also, Vorm said “Yeah, what he said” in response to a picture of Captain Picard faceplalming. Why are you agreeing with him?

hah, that moddb fact is quite interesting!

It really does not matter what people say(including the devs) weather it be about avatars changing or drug laden canned pasta like food. The mod will be out when it will be out. Plain and simple. “but what about the fans, but what about updates, but what about twitter, but what about youtube?” all of this has been said for years and guess what, still no mod. Yes, other mods have been completed and released, so go play them and stop complaining here. All the complaining gets the fans zip/nada/nuttin’ so stop complaining. you can compare this to other mods, like the keep on the borderlands mod (a complete game) which is unfinished, with a buggy demo or movies by that dick troy duffy, but it won’t help the mod get out any faster. Nothing people do in these forums will help speed a release.
/ what this guy said /

Its time we should stop giving the devs this negative bullshit to read about and more whisky.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
