2013 sunstorm

Define what ‘we are not being good to our planet’ means. Look at Jupiter, it is nothing more than a huge ball of hydrogen and helium gas with a solid core. One of the most hostile places in the solar system.

Earth has been through asteroid collisions, extreme temperatures, even a collision with another planet. You can’t be ‘good’ to a planet.
Also, what makes it ‘our’ planet? Because we’re the dominant species? Dinosaurs have lived on Earth for over 150 million years, we probably don’t even have 1% of that length.

we like to think that we are better than everyone else

Yes. By being the most important thing on the planet we can safely consider it ours. If any animals want to contest that, they can go ahead.

Most important? On what basis? Most intelligent, sure. Most advanced, definitely. Most important really depends on whose yardstick you’re measuring against and only ourselves and the few species that have evolved to depend on us specifically would really ever describe us as the most important.

Trees, for example, turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. Millions of species (and billions of individuals) would consider that the most important thing to them.

I smell an eco-terrorist.

Good to our planet as in living in harmony with nature and not destroy it and then later try to cleane it up again like we do. We destroy habitats, get pets like frogs and get tropical plants and shit and then when they’re too big let them free and invade the local nature and cause other species to go extinct, we cause extinctions directly and barely do anything other than that. That’s why I think we’re no good at all to this planet, or at least the life that’s on this planet.

And yes, that wasn’t very good wording.

Still doesn’t make sense. Asteroid impacts have fucked up the Earth on many occasions, often wiping out most life on Earth and completely destroying the environment. Are you going to complain against asteroids for not being good to Earth?

Are asteroids capable of thought? We do, and most of the time in history we used it to kill animals and destroy environments for our own good, or even to get money, which is absolutely completely worthless compared to life.

You’re right, we should all just kill ourselves.

i love this. i love all of this.

but yeah, seriously. you sound like you could benefit from a nice healthy dose of suicide, shadow

Animals have been killing eachother and others ever since they existed.

They also do that for their own good, whether it’s to survive, dominance or whatever.

I’ve got a great idea. Scientists are always talking about how we could actually start terraforming Mars, so why don’t we just go do that? Then we have a new planet to live on. Either that or we create some kind of life form that can convert the atmosphere of Venus into something breathable, that way the planet’s runaway greenhouse affect will be significantly lessened and the planet will cool down enough to start real terraforming on Venus. Or we could do both. There, I found two new places that the human race can live, therefore significantly increasing our odds of survival as a species. Of course the way that the human race acts towards each other at the moment tells me that we would rather go extinct than get over our stupid prejudices and work together for the benefit of all peoples of the Earth.

any of that would be extremely difficult, expensive, and take an extremely long time. with venus, it might not even be possible. plus why would we want to live somewhere that would shorten our possible lifespan by millions of years? yes, when the sun swells up, the first place we want to be is CLOSER.

instead of trying to fix another planet, why don’t we just stop fucking up our own so we don’t HAVE to jesus christ

Because the human race develops like a cancer. It takes root, sucks the life out of the area, and then spreads to a new place to continue its survival. Also, you said it yourself with the Venus possibility. Yes it would shorten the lifespan of any civilization on Venus by millions of years, but those are millions of years that we would have on a new world with plenty of new resources to exploit and consume. By the time the sun become any kind of threat to Venus, we will probably be so advanced we can blow up entire stars at our whim.

yeah, no. we would have probably become extinct because we’re retarded. not saying we SHOULD, but i mean, come on now. something is going to happen before we’re advanced enough to stop it, or we’re gonna kill ourselves off.

Or we might just surprise everyone and survive for another hundred thousand years. No one can read the future.

Haha, no.

probability.

There’s really no benefit to caring what happens, especially everyone alive now will be dead prior to anything ultraviolent.

Yeah we’ve got much more important things to do, like pumping hundreds of billions into wars and saving banks.

Animals do the same… Might wanna Google some info on sauropods.

Just so you know, the Earth fits a million times into the Sun, and the Sun is just a small/medium sized star. More than 99% of the solar systems mass makes up the Sun, the other 1% belongs to all the planets, dwarf planets, asteroids etc.
